Microsoft pulls bizarre Seinfeld ads

SEATTLE - TV viewers can return to their favourite programs without fear of seeing Bill Gates shaking his tushie now that Microsoft has retired a bizarre two-week-old ad campaign featuring the software giant's chairman with comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Bloggers and online media have suggested that the Redmond, Wash.-based company yanked the Seinfeld ads after they were poorly received. The ads show Gates and Seinfeld trading banter at a mall shoe store and while living with a suburban family, trying to get in touch with regular people.

Simple trick gave hacker Palin's password

WASHINGTON - Details have emerged behind the break-in of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's email account, including a first-hand account suggesting it was vulnerable because a hacker was able to impersonate her online to obtain her password.

The hacker guessed that Alaska's governor had met her husband in high school, and knew Palin's date of birth and home Zip code. Using those details, the hacker tricked Yahoo's service into assigning a new password, "popcorn," for Palin's email account, according to a chronology of the crime published on the website where the hacking was first revealed.
