Fighting off the great spam attack
The internet is under attack like never before, with spam accounting for 80 per cent of all emails sent worldwide, many of them money-making scams run by criminal gangs.

Motorola restructures as it continues downward spiral
NEW YORK - Motorola will restructure its home and networks mobility unit into three separate businesses, which could ease the way for their potential sale, according to media reports.
Motorola said in March that it plans to separate the handset business, which has been hurt by a two-year-long decline in cell phone sales, from the home and networks business. Now, the world's third-largest cell phone maker told employees in a memo last week it will split its second-largest division into three segments, according to a story published on the Wall Street Journal's website. China claims more web users than US
BEIJING - China's booming internet population has surpassed the United States to become the world's biggest, with 253 million people online despite government controls on web use, according to government data.
The latest figure on web use at the end of June is a 56 per cent increase from a year ago, the China internet Network Information Centre said. It said the share of the Chinese public using the internet is still just 19.1 per cent, leaving more room for rapid growth. July 29, 2008

The Google Killer is here..it's gone..it's back again
Much of the buzz around the online space in the last 24 hours has been around the launch of what has been touted as the Google Killer, new search engine Cuil, (pronounced cool).
Cuil was founded by highly respected search experts, husband and wife team Tom Costello and Anna Patterson who were then joined by Russell Power. Patterson and Power are ex-Google search experts, and Google must be fuming that their inventions were not added to Google's intellectual property library and may now be used against them. Oracle accuses SAP of product theft
SAN FRANCISCO - Business software maker Oracle is escalating its allegations of corporate theft against rival SAP.
Oracle has sued German software maker SAP AG, accusing its top executives of allowing a software maintenance subsidiary called TomorrowNow to steal copies of Oracle's products. Oracle says it was part of an effort to sabotage its 2005 acquisition of PeopleSoft. July 29, 2008

Facebook fends off attack of the clones
MOSCOW - In its bid to go global, Facebook is facing off against itself. Clones of the wunderkind social-networking website - some of which resemble Facebook right down to colour, font and layout - have popped up in local languages around the world. These competitor sites offer identical core services, letting users post pictures, make groups and choose their friends.
All are complicating Facebook's global campaign, which began in February and has since rolled out 18 foreign-language editions, including Norwegian and Czech, with plans for 54 more. July 29, 2008
