| Gone over your cap? Having a bigger HDD and more RAM won't do a great deal to increase your download speeds. Have you done a speed test? |

| Hi no I still have 9 gb of my 15 left and speedtest.com says that the speed is the same as it was before??? thanks again. |

| How do you know that it's slower? these are just files that you're downloading, right? Are you downloading the mpegs or playing them in a browser plugin? |

| I have always d/led the same sorts of stuff and youtube files etc, and they would always take roughly 1-2mins but since I got this new laptop a week ago thsy all take about 4-6 mins also webpages are loading slower. |

| Wirelless internet connection or wired? |
| geek_vitaminh | August 25, 2008, 10:43 pm | #7 |
| Wireless Could it be vista? My last one had xp. eg I just tried to dl a clip it started fine and said 30 seconds remaining then after a bit its now up to 4 mins left, now 6 mins left :( |

| Could be your wireless connection transfer rate or signal dropping off or even isp throttling. |

| Ok thenso how has this happened and how can I change it? |

| Please any more thoughts as this is frustrating me no end, as I said the clips I am downloading are starting out saying they have 1 minute remaining and then gradually getting slower until they have 7 mins or so, and on my old laptop they all used to take 1 to 2 minutes, not sure how to remedy this prob any help welcome :) |

| HiI have been there and my d/l speeds are exactly where they should be, I have tried everything I can think of :( |
| geek_technomagus | August 26, 2008, 11:51 pm | #14 |
| Wireless are ALWAYS slower than cable...go back to cable if you want the higher speeds. |
| geek_vitaminh | August 27, 2008, 12:02 am | #15 |
| Not that sorrymy last laptop was on the same wireless connection and was lots faster, so its got nothing to do with that, any other thoughts? |
| geek_technomagus | August 27, 2008, 12:10 am | #16 |
| I'm assuming you're using a wireless router, connected to an ADSL connection. Try switching off router changing the wireless port sending to your laptop and switching back on is again..ie a restart on a different port. Check that vista network setup is selecting IP and DNS settings correctly. |

| Umm my router only has one dsl plug hole, 4 ethernet ones but there not in use??? I rebooted my router anyways but no difference. |

| Also everything else loads really fast webpages etc, and torrents dl just as fast as they ever have. |
| geek_technomagus | August 27, 2008, 12:25 am | #20 |
| Ok, cant be sure but maybe the site that u download videos from is having a busy night ? The server is overcrowded ?Try again 2morrow at different time...Maybe your ISP is throttling certain download ports as previously mentioned, could be lots of reasons... |
| geek_drcspy | August 27, 2008, 1:01 am | #21 |
| so what ?............unless yoru wireless connection is INCREDIBLY slow and that's unlikely it'll always be faster than your internet connection (at current nz adsl speeds anyway) |
| geek_vitaminh | August 27, 2008, 1:07 am | #22 |
| Is it possible that Vista could be the cause? my old one had xp, I have tried everything its not the site as dl speeds are slow on multiple sites, also its not virus or anything as its new, and as soon as I got it I got rid of macafee and put avast on it and ccleaner, spybot, and adaware etc. I just cant think of what else it might be, and its on all browswers ie ff and ie, it makes no sense :( |
| geek_vitaminh | August 27, 2008, 10:29 pm | #23 |
| Stupid thing is still doing it :( I dont know what to do, should I take it back ?? |
| geek_vtecintegra | August 27, 2008, 10:31 pm | #24 |
| Wireless will still easily outpace a home ADSL connection, unless there are some pretty serious interference problems. |
| geek__sexylady_ | August 27, 2008, 10:37 pm | #25 |
| If yourr torrents and web pages are loading at normal acceptable speed, then its quite possible as mentioned above it might be the site/servers that you are downloading FROM, and nothing at all to do with your machine or operating system. Speed test comes back fine, so its not connection. |

| I was wondering if lots of people have this issue with vista but dont find out how to fix it, thus giving vista a bad name and making people change back to XP? Just a thought :) |
