Best internal DVD writerneed to replace my ASUS 1608W piece of crappola (my old Pioneer 107D does all the work and never misses a beat - the ASUS is just total junk). What's the best writer on the market these days? I've lost track of it all. I want something reliable for 'backing up' my DVDs...

It's funny really. I have an ASUS Dvd burner, but it's in my laptop. It burns everything. You win some, you lose some.

Chip as chips these days with a years warranty. Never had a problem with ASUS, if you use them heaps they wear out, if you use dirty scratched disk they wear out faster.

Same as in my desktop never had probs in about three years.....works without fault..I do believe that those drives are pioneer rebranded however.....but I am a bit of an Asus 'fanboy' I DO like their stuff......(just bought an Asus laptop) got an Asus mobo in my desktop and vid card and dvd drive and Asus wireless router......all very reliable

I'll add I've ripped my entire, very scratched CD collection with this drive - has sometimes taken up to 4 hours of reading for some of the worst discs. That's got to be hard on the drive, despite EACs features to periodically pause and let the drive cool.

I sell Lite-on. Have one in the Library computer since 2005, and still burning (backing up). Never had any come back due to fault,

I'm talking about the abilityto cope with copy protection instead of falling over with cyclic redundancy check errors, not merely burning data to a DVD for sharing or backup - I have a 500GB external HDD and a couple of 16GB USB drives for those menial tasks.
