| A laugh from Telecom. They rang me today to see how happy I am with their Broadband. When I told them I would like a smaller plan than the 3gb I have because I usually only use about 600mb he said they cant because the Govt wont let them. So I ask how come Telstra and others can offer say a 1Gb plan he says that The Commerce Commission wont allow them to compete with other suppliersYeah, RIGHT!!! |

| Laugh's back on you Kcc It's true. it's all part of the govt setup to prevent TC from charging/creating plans that the other ISp's can't create due to cost's etc. This way TC can't be accused of creating plans etc that deliberately undercut the other telco's |
| geek_mrfxit | August 27, 2008, 8:39 pm | #3 |
| You would be amazed at the amount of restrictions That the likes of Vodafone & Telstra have demanded be placed on TC, infact most of the restrictions are demanded by the other telco's & NOT by TC. |

| Mmm How can you use 600MB in a month? I can go through at least 100MB in 2-3hrs looking through web pages......and can eat through more than 600mb in a day. U should really learn to use the internet better, u must be missing a lot.....;) |

| I used to be on a 1Gb plan and the whole family (3 of us) didn't get over the limit in a whole month (and that would be browsing most days). 600Mb isn't a small amount if you are just browsing and not downloading files etc. |
| geek_mrfxit | August 28, 2008, 7:51 am | #10 |
| LOL don't know how you achieved that pdh Of 3 reguler computers on the net, 1 is on about 14hrs, 1 on about 8hrs & the other on about 7hrs on a typical day. / NO windows updates/ NO downloads, NO online gaming, just surfing/trademe/email accounts/ research/ chat etc etc & the typical daily usage would be about 250mb's per day |

| In the future They will just put a chip in our brain and let us communicate with plain thought. No more texting no more broadbandjust thought! snicker

| Re # 9 and Well I'm another of the small users. 2 computers on for 10 and 4 hours a day. Just emails and TM and somesurfing but no downloading of games, music or movies. Dont go to Utube , facebook etc. We use about 500 -600 per month. Everybody has different useage and just because chunming eats through an excessive amount doesnt mean we all do. Been using the 'net for 15 years and just use it for what we need. |
| geek_mrfxit | August 29, 2008, 9:42 am | #14 |
| LOL yep I DO know ppl like you exist On bad days we get up to about 5gb per day, but it's mostly about 300 to 500mb per day |
| geek_pcmaster | August 29, 2008, 12:01 pm | #15 |
| Telecom can actually do what you want they just like to spit you lines saying they can't do it 99.999991% of the timehalf the time they dont know what they're on about. its worse now they've shifted most call centre services to manilla. |
| geek_mrfxit | August 29, 2008, 12:18 pm | #16 |
| Jason What I do know is internal BUT public knowledge if you dig deep enough & READ everything you see on Telecom, then of course read between the lines & ditch the crap that doesn't matter . . . . .Doesn't leave you with much LOL |
| geek_starbritedust | August 30, 2008, 10:06 am | #17 |
| Just a quick question How do you know how many mbs that you have used a day? |
| geek_kcc55a | August 30, 2008, 10:06 am | #18 |
| You know computer use is a personal thing that suits individual needs. Its a bit like buying a car. You could do 200km a day to make good use of it, or only drive it when the need arises. Telecom used to offer a 1gb plan and I suspect they will bring it back when it soons their marketing philosophy. |
| geek_biggal | August 30, 2008, 10:20 am | #19 |
| I've been on T/com b/band for about 2 years on a 3gb plan and by and large I have been satisfied. While the Games were on and TVNZ was streaming 4 channels of games coverage, I was d/loading so much that I got an email to say I was about to exceed my 3GB limit which I did and was reduced to dial-up speed. Its been excruciating and I have still got a week to go |
| geek_biggal | August 30, 2008, 10:29 am | #20 |
| To carry on, I got rung by T/C enquiring as to my satisfaction with their service and then they offered me a choice between (a) Wireless Modem (2) Uniden cordless fone (3) $80 off my fone a/c. I took the modem which I am using now. I also took up their offer of free McAfee a/v. Yes I am happy with my experience. |
| geek_tigra | August 30, 2008, 5:53 pm | #21 |
| # 17 Go to your suppliers website should be instructions on how to check useage. |
| geek_puddleduck00 | August 30, 2008, 6:09 pm | #22 |
| Lol Even with the amount of restrictions on telecom so they don't become too much of a monopoly, our internet still sucks shit and is pretty 3rd world. |
| geek_deodar | August 30, 2008, 6:43 pm | #23 |
| Well Telecom are restricted from improving The network or offering fibre optic.
Other ISP's object to consumer satisfaction. |
| geek_mrfxit | August 30, 2008, 7:59 pm | #24 |
| Yea yea TC earned a pretty bad rap in the past BUT .. .theres so much interfering & govt intervention against TC these days that TC are now having a hard time trying to do things right because of the restrictions placed on them .. . That 200mb BB plan is a classic example because TC aren't allowed to change it in any form. |
| geek_ian582 | August 30, 2008, 9:12 pm | #25 |
| Did you know AS some of you are too young to know, the Telephone system we have today, would be a lot faster if the Gov. of that time did not sell the Phone System.Telecom is driven by PROFIT,profit only, this is why we have one of the slowest internets in the World. Bring on the unbundling, the more Telco's in NZ the better. |
| geek_mone | September 1, 2008, 6:08 am | #26 |
| and partly true, but without the recent years of regulation Telecom would still be offering ridiculously small data plans and speeds, and undercutting prices of resellers, effectively leaving customers with no choice but to stay with Telecom for 100% market share. |
| geek_tigra | September 1, 2008, 9:13 am | #27 |
| # 25 True but if Telecom had stayed in Governments hands I bet we wouldnt have broadband today. Before it was privatised there were lots of things wrong with Telecom's service not the least being waiting weeks for new connections. Mind you The Govt of the time should never hadv sold 100% of it they should have retained at least a 25% share. |
| geek_rohb | September 1, 2008, 9:40 am | #28 |
| I totally Agree National shouldn't win or they will sell everything.:)..(so much for computer talk)..But it's true..:P |
| geek_cybertao | September 1, 2008, 9:50 am | #29 |
| They should have split it in two from the start Allowing privatization of the retail market, with the government owning and leasing the lines. Since the sale, TC has charged as much as they can for the services, and spent as little possible on upgrading the lines. Apart from the money spent on it's employees, the difference between those amounts has gone overseas. Now with the call centre in Manila, there is even less of our dollars staying in the country. Telecom has been bleeding New Zealand. No matter what any government does now, we might never catch up on what they've 'stolen'. |
