Help :D hi all, just recieved my laptop back and it has been cleared of everything due to personal reasons, we got told we will have to use the "cds" to load everything back on, when i turn the laptop on it doesnt go to a windows screen it just is black with white writing and thats all it does. What CD is she referring to? cheers.
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 9:48 am#2
Yeh crystal ball broken.........just WHAT EXACTLY does this 'white writing' say
geek_deodarAugust 28, 2008, 9:53 am#3
Return to Repair Centre Everything Should have been saved on CD @ least. If not "why not",you shouldn't be left in the dark.Else where is all your Data?
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 9:58 am#4
It was something a ex of mine done on the computer and the police station had to clear everything, she just said i needed to have a cd to put on it when it had been cleared, i dont think she knew what she was talking about.
geek_barmanmykAugust 28, 2008, 9:58 am#5
Agrre with Deodar. I think they probably mean that yo have to reinstall from your recovery discs that 'should' have come with the laptop.
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 9:59 am#6
Did you bother reading my post at ? if so how about posting the information i've requested because unless you do no-one will be able to help you.....
geek_1clickawayAugust 28, 2008, 10:55 am#7
Sounds To Me That the police wiped everything; And they assume that you have the Install disk to re-install your PC; If you don't have an INSTALL disk; You need to grab a 'back-up' from a kind technician; Using the number under your laptop as install code.
geek_pcgeekAugust 28, 2008, 11:13 am#8
and here I was thinking police forensics would have some of the top minds in the country cloning your data but to have it come back in the state it is makes me wonder...
geek_namtakAugust 28, 2008, 12:02 pm#9
Geez pcgeek There are an awful lot of very stupid people out there. Why shouldn't police forensics have their share as well.
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 12:26 pm#10
Hi all sorry have been busy. when i turn on laptop it says yukon PXE v5.12.1.3 (20060316) Copyright 2003-2006 Marvell(R).All rights reserved. Pre-boot eXecution environment (PXE) v2.1 copyright 1997-2000 intel corporation. PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM Operating system not found
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 12:44 pm#11
I'd say it's not set to boot from the harddrive when you first power it up does it have something on screen saying 'press esc [or some other key] to enter setup' ....or some similar message ?
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 12:46 pm#12
Yes it has push f2 to enter setup
geek_tessalAugust 28, 2008, 12:54 pm#13
That error in #re 10 is trying to network boot, which can mean your bios configuration ( hit f2 on statup ) is not pointing too your h/d as a 1st boot option..whats the current configuration your bios is setup for bootup?
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 1:00 pm#14
Oki have pushed F2, it says under "boot" boot priority order: 1: IDE 0: Hitachi HTS541612JPSA00-( 2: IDE CDROM: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N- 3: Network Boot: B02 D00 Yukon PXE then it has USB HDD written etc. what would the current configuration of bios be under? Thanks
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 1:01 pm#15
Also says network boot is enabled.
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 1:02 pm#16
Hmm....looks like it's st to boot from hdd first.......but do this.......somewhere in the MAIN bios screen there'll be the option to set defaults......do that
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 1:03 pm#17
Ah.........try this FIRST DISABLE NETWORK BOOT
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 1:03 pm#18
Then try restart........
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 1:05 pm#19
I disabled it now it just comes up with operating system not found.
geek_tessalAugust 28, 2008, 1:12 pm#20
Oktoo continue you need too find your OS install CD and also manufacturers CDs if you have any too proceed to the next step...if you have neither of these disks you arent going too get far.
geek_drcspyAugust 28, 2008, 1:20 pm#21
Yeh looks like the cops have wiped the whole drive........dipsticks....get hold of em and tell em you expect them to fix it
geek_barmanmykAugust 28, 2008, 1:21 pm#22
That's really stupid of the cops. But anyway - what make/model Laptop? What OS? Someone here may have restore discs you could borrow.
geek_rotachick07August 28, 2008, 1:43 pm#23
Yeah i dont have the discs. its an acer. windows vista, aspire 55702.
geek_namtakAugust 28, 2008, 3:19 pm#24
Rotachick07 Thought I might be able to help. Spent an hour hunting for the copies of disks I made for the grandson, he's prone to loosing things. Just found them but bugger, they're XP not Vista. Don't give up - if cops wiped the system then surely they should be responsible for reinstalling the operating system.
geek_jmpcwizAugust 28, 2008, 3:42 pm#25
Basically, you need a Windows Vista CD/DVD and install it on the laptop. You will have to go back in F2 (Setup) and configure it to boot FIRST from CD,...so it reads the Windows Disc and you can then install it. Afterwards, do some googling of the laptop model etc and you hopefully will find some drivers to install once windows has installed.
geek_brijoAugust 28, 2008, 5:30 pm#26
Ellow ellow ellow whats going on here then ? constable plod has wiped your hard drive has he.you need to find a tech to reload your operating system hope you have the cds.
geek_intradeAugust 29, 2008, 7:33 am#27
You need this cd to solf your problem www.kanotix.com set bios to boot from cd
geek_rotachick07August 31, 2008, 9:26 am#28
Ohwell, i dont have the money to pay someone to fix it right now. will just leave it. cheers.
geek_dallas59August 31, 2008, 2:17 pm#29
Lookin for hey any one no where i can find a harddrive?
geek_drcspyAugust 31, 2008, 2:20 pm#30
Well that's a bit like askin if anyone knows where to find a car engine.......without bothering to state WHAT make/model you have theres little chance of success.....however try switching on your brain for 5 seconds and maybe just maybe it'll occur to you that theres a wonderful website called www.trademe.co.nz where people sell all sorts of stuff......probably including harddrives......duh !
