FireFox 3............................Always have pop up window to: Upgrade to Fire Fox 3, and I always click 'later' or something similar. What is it like compared to old one? Your comments appreciated, thanks.
geek_kevin16August 28, 2008, 12:35 pm#2
Seems ok, just committed to it yesterday though,..
geek_seriouslycgiAugust 28, 2008, 12:38 pm#3
Takes longer to start up for me but its faster once loaded and uses less resources. its the latest version fixing bugs and security holes.
geek_icioufaAugust 28, 2008, 12:50 pm#4

geek_icioufaAugust 28, 2008, 12:53 pm#5

Re 3..............what do you mean 'takes longer to start up...........? Start up for me: Press start button until user name 'box' appears vary between 40 secs.- 44.7 secs. if that's any help. (above is old fire fox)

He means it takes long to launch firefox. I find it fine. I am starting to feel firefox is a little more bloated than it needs to be.
geek_r.g.nixonAugust 28, 2008, 1:33 pm#9
Addons can bloat it I have 10 of them, what about you?
geek_badcamAugust 28, 2008, 1:36 pm#10
I've got 24 addons, and have no issues with speed on F3. This PC is a Pentium 4 3Ghz with 2GB ram. It takes around 10 seconds to load. I wouldn't go back to FF2.

Re & 6 Turn off the update fuction
geek_ottoitisAugust 28, 2008, 1:39 pm#12
Re # 8..............................So my 40 secs.- 44.7 secs. would be considered 'OK'/Not Bad'?
geek_badcamAugust 28, 2008, 1:44 pm#13
10. Just checked mine. 10 with no tabs. 17 with 5 tabs open at startup. 40 seconds looks slow. How old is your PC? What specs?
geek_puddleduck00August 28, 2008, 1:48 pm#14
I got Pentium D (yeah haha) 3.0GHz with 1GB of RAM and FF runs fine when it's booted..But it takes a while to launch. Much longer than other browsers. If I boot Opera, IE7 and FF3 all at the same time, opera and IE7 are ready to go long before FF. However I still prefer FF over any browser.
geek_gothicrebelAugust 28, 2008, 2:11 pm#15
Re # 1 FF 3.0 is a downgrade not an upgrade. Last decent stable version of FF was version 2.0.0.16 Opera and safari leave FF3 for dead !
geek_ifusionAugust 28, 2008, 2:35 pm#16
"Opera and safari leave FF3 for dead !" Pfft what a load of crap!

Re # 13 Toshiba laptop Dec. 2006, Harvey Norman. 512mb? Broadband wireless, speed 54 mbps,(when hover mouse above screen icon bottom right desktop)
geek_0800xfordAugust 28, 2008, 4:40 pm#18
5 seconds here, mo'fox 3 xubuntu 8.04.1 and that's with mp3gain molesting my cpu.
geek_sneekyAugust 29, 2008, 12:35 am#19
FF3 Vs FF2 My MacBook Pro opens firefox with about 10 tabs in 3-5 secs. 4Gb of ram. FF3 is alot less resource hungry than ff2. FF2 had an issue of caching unopened web pages. Safari is very good, it's fast and renders colours better. But when every I use it I miss my addons.
geek_seriouslycgiAugust 29, 2008, 1:36 am#20
Mine takes 1-3 minutes on a duron 750 with windows xp and like 3 add-onsonce going its fine on resources just takes a while to start firefox, os starts up quicker than firefox does lol
geek_drcspyAugust 29, 2008, 1:51 am#21
TEN seconds to load FF ?.........sloooowww my 'old' pc P4 2.8ghz (@ 3.2ghz with 1.5gb ram) loads it up with three open tabs in 5 seconds
geek_vitaminhAugust 29, 2008, 7:51 am#22
It seems exactly the same to me lol just as fast loading, same features etc.
