Compaq 719TU Laptop Issues on Vista This is my sons laptop and the second time in 2 mnths it is unuseable. It will not boot into windows, and the message I get is No Bootable Device - Insert Bootdisk & press any key. Things I have tried so far:

1.Changing the boot sequence.
2.Running Diagnostics, on Hard disk/ short and long, these finished unusually quick, a split second, both passed.
3.System recovery, loads files, then same message appears.
4.Restore disks, loads HP recovery console, loads files, then this comes up:
Microsoft Cisual C++Runtime library
Runtime error, programe:x\windows\system32\RESTORE7 exe
abnormal program termination.

I also can not access safemode or restore back, any advice before I rip my hair out would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Have you tried the destructive or non destructive recovery options , or will it not even get that far...

I would suspect that you have a failing hard-drive.You need to try an independent disk checking utility.

A fiend of mine purchased that model earlier in the year had problems staying connected to clear dial-up.(2) replacements and (1) motherboard replacement later issue was still not fixed. So Compaq refunded her money & she got a Toshiba L300. No more problems. i think the whole C700 series are crap. Just my opinion...

Lol I totally agree on the piece of junk, Im not impressed with it at all, and would gladly take a replacement right now, rather than have further issues with it.

Yeh well it seems that some of those models have inbuilt modems which are nOT compatible with the clear dialup system but they work fine with most other isp's........

Sowhat would you guys do, it crapped out at 4mnths old and now again 2 mnths after it had been repaired, do I demand a replacement or get it fixed yet again.
geek_blenheim-trader September 8, 2008, 3:15 pm

"Ask for a replacement" ...tell them your not interested in having it fixed again...6 months and 2 repairs doesnt leave much hope for it after the warranty runs out..

Lol I called them, and expressed my dissatisfaction at this thing dying twice and asked for a replacement, I was told it has to literally die 3 times, be looked at by a computer tech and they would recommend a replacement, it has just been picked up and on its way to wellington, I should have told the courier to lose it somewhere.

The thought of having another the same breed doesnt thrill me to much, Id settle for a refund or a different model other than that.

Re my post The "only" problem this laptop had was that it wouldnt stay connected to "Clear" dialup. Compaq answer was that you should use Xtra . Yeah right when they are paying $3.95 Unlimited from Clear & Xtras Unlimited is $27.95....She brought a toshiba L300 with the refunded money .Which had a webcam and Vista Premium and has had no problems at all since..

Thats interesting, as I had a clear net dialup acct for when I was away from home and was always getting disconnected after a few mins, it was set not to disconnect, and I blamed the isp for it, never thought for one sec that it was the laptop.

The "C791WU" Has the same problem with "Clear" this laptop was fine with Xtra changed to "clear" disconnected at random..The only Laptops i know of that seem to have this issue are the Compaq C700 series....Updated drivers make no difference..
