Backup software on CD?

geek_stefan123March 18, 2008, 3:21 pm#1
Backup software on CD? Over the past 4 years I have bought some download software: DVD COPY, DVD MAKING, DVD TO MP3 ripper. The Plato dvd to mp3 ripper was a bit rude. They said if you downloaded it and something went wrong in the process, you would have to pay for it again. And they said you have to pay for it again each time you try to download it unless you paid insurance (lasts only a year) to download it again. Then I wondered, maybe the other software i bought has similar conditions and I don't know it. So my question is, is there a way to put the software i bought on a CD so I have a back up if i buy a new pc or my pc crashes or something. I know how to copy cds and put data on cds etc but I don't know how to copy a programme onto a cd in a way that will be easy to reinstall the programme from cd later. Thanks if someone can advise.

Well when you download something DONT 'run' it SAVE it.....then the setup file is on the harddrive you can then use it anytime you want to reinstall the program you can also save that file onto cd if you wish....

Easy just burn the downloaded file on to a cd or better a dvd as the dvd is larger and also buy a usb pen drive to copy the files on to it. you have to backup the installer file with the .exe on the end and make sure you also write down the passwords for potential licenses for the software you purchased. Just burn em with nero express etc or k3b on linux as files

.... That's great. Thanks.

Some (& thankfully only some) Won't allow a downloadable full redistributable exe file & make you download & install from their site only. Is that some of the prg's you are talking about? . .Otherwise, yea, as the others said above

.... I had a look in the programs folders but couldn't see exe files for any of them.So it looks like i can't transfer them onto CD/DVD as backup. If they let me (and they should i hope as i paid for them all) can I choose 'save' when downloaded them again and download them straight onto the cd/dvd disks? Will this 1. save them onto the disk 2. be a functional backup??

If you bought then you should have a license key and registration key , redownloading the trial version should suffice. Then burn that to disc without installing, when you do install should just use your to keys.

Thanks for answer. Yes, might work for a couple of them. However, the trial version for at least one of them is not complete. for example the Plato dvd to mp3 ripper only copies a few minutes (if that) in the trial version. Also, trial versions usually cancel themselves after a couple or weeks or so usually.

But it might work for some of them
