itunes - cannot open itunes library because it was created with a newer version

geek_kate113March 22, 2008, 3:29 pm#1
Itunes problem When I try to open itunes a pop up says "cannot open itunes library because it was created with a newer version" but when I tried to update itunes it said something about "an invalid signature"? same with Safari, though I wasn't sure whether I should download that or not anyway.

This is iTunes and Safari for Windows, or iTunes and Safari for Mac? Little details like these make a difference. :-)

Customer came in with the same thing Re-installing it wont change it. We found that by using another thing (apart from Itunes0 can corrupt the Library in the Ipod. That needs to be reset back to factory settings.

Sorry, Windows. Yes found that because I just uninstalled it and when I re installed it said the same thing!

Try this http://tinyurl.com/2p4b4y. Sounds like you had a newer version of iTunes at some point, or possibly copied the library over from a newer version (the same thing happened on my Mac). As far as the invalid sig goes, the Apple support pages suggest that reinstalling iTunes/Quicktime software update should help. Swivel - how does resetting the iPod help with *itunes*?
geek_swivelMarch 22, 2008, 4:34 pm#6
Well after a few installs (and getting the same error) the last install said the Library was corrupted and stated the ipod to be reset to factory (and all data will be lost). So we did (as why not), And all good after that. I think it was the 3rd party program (not that I remember it's name) that caused the error. This is why I said what i said before

Also reinstalling iTunes/Quicktime didn't work

Itunes is the problem, why do people bother with Itunes and Ipods, especially with windows. There are FAR superior alternatives.
geek_kate113March 22, 2008, 4:49 pm#9
What are they? re my problem, I googled it and went to Apple and installed the newest version, which I thought I had done already but this time it seems to have worked, thanks for the suggestions though. I am about to buy either an ipod or mp3 any suggestions as to what to get? Yes I am out of the ark! and 200-500 songs would be plenty for me, and wheres the best place to get music for them? I now have itunes and digerama on my PC. Sorry if these are stupid Q's! but my computer skills are fairly basic!

Anyone ?
geek_thegillyMarch 22, 2008, 8:30 pm#11
Do you need a screen? Or are you happy listening to music at random? The iPod Shuffle's good if you don't need a screen--consider buying refurbished off the Apple site (not the current model, but cheaper and with the usual warranty). The new iPod Nanos are great, too, play video and everything. There are those who won't hear anything good said about iPods, but personally I don't see any reason to change from what works, and the iPod/iTunes combo works fantastically for me. The iTunes Store is a huge source of music to purchase. But your existing stuff from Digirama won't work with an iPod without some kind of workaround because of differing DRM schemes, so if you have a lot invested in music purchased from places other than iTunes or the CD store, perhaps you should look at non-iPod options. If you don't get more replies, maybe start a new thread since you're really onto a new topic now.

And I'd advise you not to be tempted by the cheapie no-name Asian-import MP3 and MP4 players that are everywhere on TM. Judging simply from the number of problems with them we hear about on this board ... Better to stick with a name brand from a real shop (either online or the brick-and-mortar kind) that gives you some kind of warranty. Also means there's a community of people out there who have them and can offer informed assistance. What kind of price range are you looking at? Oh, and does the player you choose need to be able to cope with heavy-duty rugged use, perhaps at the gym or when you go out for a run? If it does, you don't want a hard-drive based model.

LOL thegilly gym? run? thanks for your advice, yes to be honest I was looking at those cheapies. I don't need a screen and just want something fairly simple. thanks, will start new thread for more info.
