Wireless and wired on same connection| geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 6:46 pm | #1 | | Wireless and wired on same connection I want to have my desktop wired and laptop unwired. But for some reason the wired boots the unwired off line ie I cant get both at the same time... Why? Is there a way to do this?
Any suggestions will be gratefully received :) |

| | geek_flewy | March 22, 2008, 6:48 pm | #2 | | What are you using,, hopefully not two modems ie modem and a modem/router? | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 6:51 pm | #3 | | Yeah! I have one dynalink wired modem and one d-link router. Why not? | | geek_flewy | March 22, 2008, 6:53 pm | #4 | | Is the router a modem too? | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 6:56 pm | #5 | | Shit how can I tell that? It's the normal wireless thing that Telecom (chock, spit) provide as a starter kit. | | geek_flewy | March 22, 2008, 6:58 pm | #6 | | Whats the model number?
You cant run two modems on the same line. | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 7:05 pm | #7 | | Thanks Ok thats a right piss off but at least I know - thanks for that. Judt out of curiousity... why can't I? (Run 2 at the same time) | | geek_pheonix | March 22, 2008, 7:12 pm | #8 | | Because the equipment is designed that way. A bit like two people whispering to you at the same time, one in each ear. If you can look at each of those devices and post back the model numbers of each, we maybe able to suggest a way to get what you want working. The Dlink something like D605T? | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 7:19 pm | #9 | | Hey bear with me please will try to find no's etc | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 7:27 pm | #10 | | K, no's = The D-Link wireless is;
G604T/TX
The Dynalink Home DSL (Wired) modem could be either SO113-3E1-00 or TWFA44000166 | | geek_pikachu22_nz | March 22, 2008, 7:34 pm | #11 | | Ok... All you need is the D-Link Wireless. It includes an ADSL modem built in. :) It includes a sqitch also so just plug the wired computer into one of the 10/100 ports. | | geek_pheonix | March 22, 2008, 7:35 pm | #12 | | The G604T/TX should run both wired and wireless at the same time.I have to leave for an hour, but someone else may be able to fill you in on setting up, or I can do on my return. | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 7:42 pm | #13 | | Re... Pikachu - I was running both comps via that sort off set up before but for some reason the desktop (my sons) has stopped recognising the modem & I can't afford to get it looked at. I've got the dynalink wired installed with no probs but as I say, it boots the wireless (laptop - mine) offline. | | geek_pikachu22_nz | March 22, 2008, 7:45 pm | #14 | | Are you connected via the wired or wireless at the moment? If you just plug the current computer into the wireless router deos it work? | | geek_lolliefizz | March 22, 2008, 7:45 pm | #15 | | Phoenix same goes as above. I also have to go offline for a while but appreciate ur and Phoenix thoughts. I'll be back later to checl out any other msgs. Thanks :) | | geek_pikachu22_nz | March 22, 2008, 7:48 pm | #16 | | Np... If you are connected that way now look for the two computers in the system tray (by the clock), right lcick on them and go to status then support. Let us know what it says there. :) | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 10:02 am | #17 | | I don't suppose I can ask for help with a similar problem, I started with just a modem, the one xtra provide, but wanted to access broadband with laptops in the house. So Xtra said I have to get a router, which I did, but not from them, so they don't provide support. DLink don't open again until Tuesday and I've been trying since Thur night to sort this. Anyway when I try to configure the router, I enter admin as username and leave password blank, it keeps asking for password. So I reset the router, but still no luck. So I'm connected to the internet, but can't go any further than that. I emailed the trader I bought the router off to see if he remembers the password he used. Is it possible the router isn't resetting? Any ideas? | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 10:04 am | #18 | | I have a DI-524 Wireless G Broadband Router and a DSL502T modem, thanks | | geek_kevin16 | March 23, 2008, 10:20 am | #19 | | Lolliefizz did you not get an manual with your equipment?,.. | | geek_swivel | March 23, 2008, 10:28 am | #20 | | I believe the password is password or admin. when you get in, turn off the dhcp. Now connect your modem to the 524 and your computers to the 524. The 524 should recieve the dhcp address from the dlink and so should the computers. For the Wireless set a password. Will find the link for all this. | | geek_kevin16 | March 23, 2008, 10:33 am | #21 | | Swivel,. do you think they should clear any settings they have already tried/made on the computers so everything is 'default' and reset the router first?, | | geek_swivel | March 23, 2008, 10:35 am | #22 | | Try this, Google is your friend http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/449505.html | | geek_swivel | March 23, 2008, 10:36 am | #23 | | Well reset the 524 atleast. (it was the way i had my setup (untill i got the 604), only diff is i was using a 504 and not a 502 | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 10:41 am | #24 | | Thanks swivel, I tried those passwords but it stil doesn't accept them, hence I can't go any further. Tried resetting the router, btw the reset button is just a hole, is this right?, lol. Will go and read the google link you posted, thanks again | | geek_swivel | March 23, 2008, 10:49 am | #25 | | Yeah its a small hole but hold it in for 10 secs | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 10:55 am | #26 | | Cool, I did that again until the green lights went out and came back on, still the same story with the password for the router. Will probably have to wait until Tuesday until DLink support reopen. I'm using a vodem on my laptop in the meantime, but the others in the house who want the broadband, well they can go outside for the day, awesome weather in Auckland. Thanks heaps for your help :) | | geek_flewy | March 23, 2008, 10:58 am | #27 | | OMG this thread is PEBACK central lol | | geek_swivel | March 23, 2008, 11:03 am | #28 | | Try Default IP address: 192.168.0.1
Default admin username: admin
Default admin password: blank | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 12:38 pm | #29 | | Well I don't know what I did now, lol but it won't even open the configuration page now. And the IP address in the Network Settings has gone back to that 10.1.1.1 address from before I got the router. I've changed the settings to the 192.168.0.1 address, but it doesn't open it at all, I get a msg can't open page because I'm not connected to the internet, so I check Network Settings and the status says I'm connected. Oh well, lol, thanks for your help :) | | geek_spyware | March 23, 2008, 12:48 pm | #30 | | Status connected means you have a physical connection between your network card and the device at the other end of the cable, i.e., the router, it has nothing to do with connecting to the Internet. | | geek_spyware | March 23, 2008, 12:56 pm | #31 | | 524 manual link is below. ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DI-524/Manuals/DI-524_Manual.pdf | | geek_angelspace | March 23, 2008, 1:08 pm | #32 | | Oh, ok, things are worse than I thought, lol I've got the manual and can't find what to do if you can't open the configuration page for the router. It has a drop box with username: admin, for the password I've tried everything from doing nothing, to typing admin, blank, password. I've reset the router, so anyone's previous password (from the last owner I bought it off here) should be wiped ?, but still no luck. I'll have another go later, thank you. | | Leave your comment: | |
