FreeView We have installed freeview and all good but we lose colour after 5 seconds and reverts to black and white. Reception perfect and channels all go. Can someone help.

How is decoder connected to TV, RF (puke), composite (not much better than RF), svideo, component, or HDMI? I assume you are taliking about the DVB-S mpeg2 (satellite) service or are you talking about the new high definition DVB-T H.264 (digital terrestrial) service to officially start on April 2nd. Satellite service is a poor choice if you live in Auckland.
geek_stuwMarch 24, 2008, 7:25 pm#3
Spyware re your last comment, why is that?
geek_spywareMarch 24, 2008, 7:29 pm#4
I meant that given DVB-S satellite service is only standard definition and will be until another satellite is launched that the DVB-T H.264 service offers better picture quality. TVNZ upscaling TV1/TV2 to 1280x720p50. TV3 upscaling to 1920x1080i25 and transmitted HD content from April 1.

Fair enough But do most people really give a shizzer about HD compaired to SD? I certainly don't.
geek_frankie46March 24, 2008, 7:42 pm#6
Guys love your debate but in plain english are you saying everyone with freeview can only watch in b & w. Everything connected correctly and all perfect bar colour.
geek_flewyMarch 24, 2008, 7:43 pm#7
I'd rather have HD Black and white,,, TV aint set to NTSC is it?
geek_stuwMarch 24, 2008, 7:45 pm#8
Frankie check to see if your decoder is set to s video. That could be your problem.
geek_spywareMarch 24, 2008, 7:46 pm#9
576 interlaced lines was developed in the 1950s to run on a CRT and is unsuitable for modern LCD or plasma screens. If you like Sky's 576i low bit rate debauchery with visible macro blocks you may disagee but 1280x720p50 and 1920x1080i25 has 4 to 5 times as many pixels as 576i25 and is thus suited to modern displays.

Most people dont even care sky is good, its just tv after all
geek_frankie46March 24, 2008, 7:51 pm#11

geek_stuwMarch 24, 2008, 7:52 pm#12

geek_frankie46March 24, 2008, 8:18 pm#16
It Was Adjustment had to be made to the TV for the preset colour system. Again big big thank you. x
geek_spj2March 24, 2008, 8:18 pm#17
Stuw, why would you not want to have high def. if you were offered it? I don't understand.
geek_stuwMarch 24, 2008, 8:24 pm#18
Because I am more than happy with the present system. I never said I didn't want it. But I really don't give a rats if I do or I don't. I have a HD TV and a HD video. my point is only, do most people really care about HD v SD
geek_aph4u1March 26, 2008, 11:58 pm#19

Re 17 not sure about satmax but anything with an Irdeto 1 card can get 7 Central and the 3 SBS Aust channels off C1. I have a maxplus and dual cone lnb which does the job.
geek_traceedwardsMarch 27, 2008, 6:56 am#22
18... If you are referring to Imparja and NITV then they have gone from D1 never to return.
geek_traceedwardsMarch 27, 2008, 6:57 am#23

geek_aph4u1March 27, 2008, 8:26 am#24

Another question re freeview when watching tv on any of the uhf channels we the volume set to Level 19-21 for a good sound level. Yet when we change to watch freeveiw we have to turn the TV volume up to 36+ to get the same sound level. The volume setting on the freeveiw decoder is on max..... Any suggestions on how to correct this?
