music cataloguing software| geek_litldevil | March 25, 2008, 11:34 am | #1 | | Music cataloguing software i am looking for software to print a list of all the music files on my hdd's. does anyone have ideas of what works well? im not really a fan of itunes as a music manager, but more wanting a "list" of what music i have. thanks |

| | geek_snookim | March 25, 2008, 12:03 pm | #2 | | Open the command prompt (Start - Run... - cmd (XP) command (98) and navigate to the music directory by using the cd [name of directory] command. Then use this command: dir /s /b [location of music]*.mp3 [or*.wma] = C:music.txt Note that the = is actually the right-pointing arrow above the full stop as TM won't allow that symbol. So an example would be: dir /s /b C:Music*.mp3 = C:music.txt. This will output a list of all the mp3s in C:Music to a text file in C: called Music. | | geek_snookim | March 25, 2008, 12:10 pm | #3 | | To clarify when the run dialogue box opens type in cmd (xp) or command (98) into the box and click ok. The black command prompt window should appear. cd means change directory and dir means show the contents of the current directory (that's why it's sometimes easier to navigate to the directory that to try and remember the path to it). You will have to navigate to each directory and output to a different file (music1.txt, music2.txt etc). the /s /b switches give full paths and include subfolders.
