If a copied version, chances are they just copied the files across and not copied the disk directly. You may have to burn another copy, but select the bootable option in Nero. (or whatever burning program you use) | | geek_charles.j | March 26, 2008, 7:34 pm | #8 | | Use a win98se boot disk E(Being the drive letter E:/i386/winnt.exe however the slashes go.. always get them wrong because of linux lol | | geek_b1anca | March 26, 2008, 7:34 pm | #9 | | Sorry just have to ask re Neor I have a cd of that down in my basement, my other computer seems to have crashed - see boot device thread.... could I burn something onto a disk via Nero and try to fix computer? Mind you I probably dont have the right disks or cd's for it??? HELP | | geek_charles.j | March 26, 2008, 7:38 pm | #10 | | .... put the xp cd in and boot it off the cd? you dont need windows to do that... | | geek_gyrogearloose | March 26, 2008, 8:49 pm | #11 | | Have you asked your tech friend? Assuming these are genuine Microsoft disks with holograph (etc), one possible cause is a misunderstanding of what the disk is. If the label reads "Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2" - then that is a service pack 2 disk, and it won't be bootable. You would install the SP2 executable on this disk after installing Microsoft Windows XP. On the other hand, if the label reads "Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2" - this will be a bootable install disk for XP including service pack 2. | | geek_drcspy | March 27, 2008, 8:25 am | #12 | | AND the other thing no one has mentioned is that no system will AUTOBOOT from a xp cd.....after making sure that your FIRST boot device is set in the bios to be cdrom.....if you just stuff the cd in and leave it then it WONT boot ......cause......it gives you a little menu........'press any key to boot from cd'.....and you got five seconds to press a key if you dont it'll just boot thru to windows or whatever and ignore the cd...... | | geek_hakatere1 | March 27, 2008, 12:59 pm | #13 | | Xpboot.bin file is what you need. Find it here http://www.infocellar.com/CD/xp-boot-cd.htm Also instructions on how to slistream xp sp into a cd. | | geek_pcfix4u | March 28, 2008, 6:32 am | #14 | | Hi Ya could be your cdrom is not reading | | Leave your comment: | |
