Harddrive's Overheating| geek_pixma | March 26, 2008, 7:39 pm | #1 | | Harddrive's Overheating Got 2 X 80 GB HDDs in this PC, they are basicly sitting on each other but still screwed in...they feel very hot and are making strange noise after the PC has been going for over 15 mins. Should I bother changing it...

| | geek_charles.j | March 26, 2008, 7:41 pm | #2 | | .... i'd keep your stuff backed up. what sort of cooling do you have in your pc? stick a case fan on the front and one on the rear. sucking cool air in from the front and then out the back | | geek_pixma | March 26, 2008, 7:44 pm | #3 | | .... It has the TWO fans. One which is in the back and ONE I put in which is right opposite the mainboard. Is that enough ? | | geek_charles.j | March 26, 2008, 7:47 pm | #4 | | I could be wrong but i was told it is all about the direction of the airflow. google might help you.. see here on one pc. i have 1 120mm on the front. 2 rear 80mm's on the back. runs without a problem and it has 3 hdd's | | geek_swivel | March 26, 2008, 8:09 pm | #5 | | CJ... your correct. But it's ferrit karma | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 8:38 pm | #6 | | Please reposition the rear exhaust fan to blow in and not suck out. Take out the fan that is facing the main board as it’s just not needed, unclip the CPU fan from main board BUT make sure you destroy ALL backups you have made in the last 10 years before you unclip CPU fan this is of upmost importance….. In doing the above steps you will be assured that your PC will not get to cold over the winter months that will follow. Oh and Darn its hard to train the non-regulars of this message board | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 8:39 pm | #7 | | Voted .... | | geek_gyrogearloose | March 26, 2008, 8:40 pm | #8 | | I was with the ferrets before and when they get tired of pulling out your adsl cable, they let go little tufts of fur into your case to impede the airflow and overheat your disks. They won't last long now. | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 8:47 pm | #9 | | Lol Pixma it seems that you are having endless problems, Me and my Ferrets produce strong Karma, guess you should not have been so rude & insulting about the little creatures, if I was you I start to get worried soon *Smiles Sweetly* | | geek_pixma | March 26, 2008, 8:51 pm | #10 | | .... Why are you being so childish about bringing up the story about your pests as pets. Trademe has been contacted... | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 8:53 pm | #11 | | Im pleased as i have a record of the other threads, everything that you put, so i am looking foward to TM contacting me... | | geek_pixma | March 26, 2008, 8:57 pm | #12 | | YUP... Why do you have to have anything to my posts. As far as I'm concerned all ferrits should be shot as they are a PEST. Mmmmmm lead | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 8:57 pm | #13 | | And also note Pixma i have never been the first person to bring up "Ferret Karma" but i see no harm in agreeing with another person who states that :) | | geek_pixma | March 26, 2008, 8:58 pm | #14 | | .... Ferrit Karma. Yea, Thats real funny. Duhhh | | geek_mrfxit | March 26, 2008, 10:02 pm | #15 | | FFS pixma shutup Couldn't have happened to a nicer person | | geek_ceejay13 | March 27, 2008, 1:56 pm | #16 | | Never mind ferrets....... mine was all clogged up with dog fur. I was shocked it was a wonder it worked at all. I pulled it out and the back vents were completely covered with hair, the hardrive had a terrible smell and it was very hot. Clearned it all out - no more trouble. Now I check it regularly. Good Luck. | | Leave your comment: | |
