Can anyone help me with my Outlook Express| geek_emjay10 | March 26, 2008, 10:38 pm | #1 | | Can anyone help me with my Outlook Express problem? I logged on to check my emails this morning, and everything was normal. I turned my PC off and went to work. When I turned my PC on late afternoon, the blue bar along the bottom of the screen was not wisible. I restarted the PC and opened Outlook Express, only to find my Inbox had lost all the emails sent before today, plus the five folders with loads of emails have totally disappeared. They are not in the deleted items, or anywhere else as far as I can tell. Any help gratefully received!! |

IE. have you logged on as Administrator instead of emma? | | geek_emjay10 | March 26, 2008, 10:43 pm | #3 | | No, and I have restarted PC a couple of times, and still getting same error. One of the folders had heaps of work stuff in that I really don't want to loose. | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 10:48 pm | #4 | | What ISP are you with, i know it sounds strange but there have been a few cases of "Lost emails" of late... do you have System Restore turned on ... i'm not asking you to use it, just want to know IF you have a valid restore point (not that it may help) do you have recent backups? | | geek_emjay10 | March 26, 2008, 10:50 pm | #5 | | I'm with Xtra. I would not have thought that the ISP could cause the Inbox to empty and the folders to disappear, but I'm at a loss as to how that happened. I've scanned the PC and there were no issues. I haven't ever done a restore so don't know if I have a restore point. | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 10:53 pm | #6 | | Oh dear as IF i remember correctly the ISP that did lose "Inbox" email was Xtra, i don't however remember if other folders went MIA..... Have you google'd the problem? | | geek_1clickaway | March 26, 2008, 10:53 pm | #7 | | At First Thought Are there other ppl that has access to the pc? If so, What might have happened - is that you might have gathered a few un-wanted files that could have 'damaged' your pc files, and mostly the outlook express: First port of call - is a pc virus program. ( spybot search n destroy - [www.safer-networking.org] - Antivir [www.avira.com ] ) Once you clear the viruses: then you might be able to log on on again with files etc. :) | | geek__sexylady_ | March 26, 2008, 10:54 pm | #8 | try this http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm
It is quite easy to move your store folder to a more convenient location, rather than buried in the Windows folder. First open Windows Explorer and create a folder you want OE to use for the new store, preferably on a separate local drive or partition. You cannot move the store to a network drive nor a removable drive.
With the new folder created, open OE and click Tools| Options| Maintenance, then click the Store Folder button. Click the Change button and Browse to your new folder. Click OK to close each dialogue, and then close OE. When you open OE again it will automatically move the old store to the new location.
Warning! Do NOT attempt to copy the store manually to the new location. This will only confuse OE and result in warnings that will confuse you. The automated move function works as expected, and is quite safe. | | geek_emjay10 | March 26, 2008, 10:56 pm | #9 | | I'll try that thanks I didn't think it could be an ISP problem - thought I might have a virus but I'll check it out thanks | | geek_emjay10 | March 26, 2008, 10:58 pm | #10 | | No-one was home so I am confident it wasn't anything someone else did. | | geek_pcfix4u | March 26, 2008, 11:08 pm | #11 | | Emjay10 open my computer go to tools at the top // folder options //view // tick show hidden files and folders //untick the next two below that & tick ok ok //this will show all file then follow this path to find address book :C:Documents and SettingsemjayApplication DataMicrosoftAddress Book:

there is a size limit email systems can handle and also bugs can hide in email I have proven this time and time again.
save all big emails to my docs
