geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:21 pm#1
UGRENT HELP NEEDED! PC not working at all Hi. Our other PC has completed screwed up. I was playing CoD4 and got PO and slammed the mouse on the mouse pad. PC Froze. Turned it on. No signal from montior. Tryed holding down the button for 6 secounds but turns off as soon as I hit it for 1/2 a secound. Busy light not showing. Thanks. Specs. 8800GTS 320MB, Q6600, Mobo DP35DP Intel, 500W PSU, 2GB DDR2 800.

try a different mouse or open you bios and change your 'halt on' options. for example "halt on all but keyboard" lets you boot without a keyboard plugged in. you may have an option to "halt on all but keyboard/mouse"
geek_brian_491November 19, 2008, 5:25 pm#3
My bet would be "damn you whacked it hard" you could have loosened the graphics card or possibly a memory module try to reseat them and try again
geek_brian_491November 19, 2008, 5:26 pm#4
Yeah the halt on option is a good idea if all else fails pull the bios battery out leave for 5 mins then try again
geek_l624628November 19, 2008, 5:27 pm#5
You must've been pretty angrylol
geek_gyrogearlooseNovember 19, 2008, 5:28 pm#6
And this is "UGRENT" because of CoD4 and what an important man you are. I'd suggest you should hit it harder, and harder, until you feel that you are the master.
geek_rahtoNovember 19, 2008, 5:31 pm#7
Can acomputer stuff up if you slam a mouse down on a mouse pad that may be no where near the computer at all? Even if the mouse breaks, I thought that you could start it, but it wouldn't recognise the mouse.. Or am I mistaken? I'm not taking the piss, i seriously didn't know that a mouse could stop a computer starting lol.
geek_brian_491November 19, 2008, 5:32 pm#8
Let me know how you get on and if you need help k
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:32 pm#9
Well I did hit it until the busy light came on for a secound :P. Check GPU/CPU/Mobo. I'll try anthor mouse Tomorrow. Thanks. (P.S. The mouse is working)
geek_deodarNovember 19, 2008, 5:34 pm#10
I agree, what are you?a goody 2 shoes? Use a hammer next time.Or suspend the mouse from the clothes line and rotate it,then throw it in the dryer.
geek_0800xfordNovember 19, 2008, 5:34 pm#11
rahto - if there was some kind of short in the mouse after smashing it down it could easily stop the machine from starting.
geek_cybertaoNovember 19, 2008, 5:36 pm#12
So what exactly is not working? The computer turns on, but the monitor doesn't display and switches off? It's probably your graphics card if so.
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:37 pm#13
Re 11 Please explain more.

geek_julieandcasperNovember 19, 2008, 5:46 pm#17
Oh ouch, deodar that was funny and painful at exactly the same time. What does CoD stand for again? I used to know once.
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:46 pm#18
So it boots up after me swearing at it. Next time I'll play the 'Once were Warriors' Theme song and it'll scare da shitters outta it. Thanks guys. Tough love :P
geek_l624628November 19, 2008, 5:47 pm#19

geek_julieandcasperNovember 19, 2008, 5:48 pm#20
I'm with the short on the mouse, btw. :) I've fried a couple old PC's (very ancient ones, don't worry) by not checking for frayed/pinched chords. Zap! There goes the circuit board. No idea how protected a board would be from such a mishap these days.
geek_0800xfordNovember 19, 2008, 5:48 pm#21
ha ha =p
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:50 pm#22
Re 17 Call of Duty. I might go on my mums PC and slam the mouse and see if that breaks her PC :P It was like the 5-10th time I've broken the same mouse :O So yeahman CoD4 gets me PO'ed.
geek_0800xfordNovember 19, 2008, 5:52 pm#23
"5-10th time I've broken the same mouse" right.
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 5:54 pm#24
Re 23 Slammed it until the buttons dont work/it doesn't move. Have to re-attach the buttons etc
geek_helplessNovember 19, 2008, 5:59 pm#25
I'm not sure why some think online fpshooters are relaxing. I find it incredibly frustrating when I put 50 rounds at some bot/joker and he doesn't die,,generally the next move is they pull out a Pistol and with 2 shots kill me..Sometimes I think I must be just useless but in reality it's all about who has the best connection and Telecoms just does not cut it..
geek_julieandcasperNovember 19, 2008, 6:23 pm#26
Thanks, ruby2shoes :) I liked Thief and Far Cry when it came out. I'd like to try Far Cry II eventually when my PC catches up in capability. The war ones all started to look alike though and I don't play games much anymore except casually on the iPod.
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 19, 2008, 6:24 pm#27
Re 25 Is that Halo1 by any chance? Jk lol
geek_helplessNovember 19, 2008, 6:28 pm#28

geek_drcspyNovember 19, 2008, 6:53 pm#30
A short in a usb mouse could indeed kill the motherboard ouchy.......
geek_rua69November 19, 2008, 7:07 pm#31
"UGRENT" what said, brilliant
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 20, 2008, 10:50 pm#32
Well it sometimes works now. It always says 'USB Human Device Found' (Mouse is USB and tested on 1 other PC, works fine on both :S), and sometimes when I turn it on it makes a sound like the fans are going crazy, then turns off a secound later. Sometimes nothing appares on the monitor at all? You think its the MOBO? I'm using a different monitor and it seems to be working fine. But why does it sometimes turn off and on with thoose fans? Thanks
geek_ruby2shoesNovember 20, 2008, 11:08 pm#33
And its got the Busy light on 100% of the time and is very loud :(
geek_olackNovember 20, 2008, 11:51 pm#34
Just try a Windows Microsoft Update...just to provoke Windows into updating the USB device drivers. Also do this, Method 2: How to perform a clean boot procedure on a Windows XP-based computer Note You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality, but may result in the return of the original error message or behavior. 1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box,and then click OK. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: • Process SYSTEM.INI File • Process WIN.INI File • Load Startup Items 4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. 5. Click OK, and then click Restart. When the Computer is restarted Select Normal Start Up in the msconfig winow that you opened earlier.

Re 34 - Thanks, I'll try to get my friend to help me with that. While trying to find out whats wrong with my PC, I stumbled onto something that is awful and is why my PC is doing so badly :( - http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=showethanph2.jpg

The user was PO, so now it's POked and that's an expensive lesson to learn, but lessons can be very valuable. Computers are a tool, and unique in that they can be reprogrammed with new software to perform new functions, whether it be games, entertainment or finance. It's important to look after your tools, ask at any door in town.
geek_0800xfordNovember 21, 2008, 2:11 pm#40
