Computer Access

Computer Access Im trying to access my deceased brothers computer, believe me i sent it to several technicians but to no avail, the problem at this stage is the password to get in to the HDD.
When i turn it on it reads:
Please Enter Built-in HDD User Password.
Toshiba Satelite M70 Laptop
Any suggestions

One for the experts I suspect you're going to need a professional data recovery firm to solve this one. Expect to pay a few hundy for it too. Be a bit wary; it's easy enough to remove the password and 'unlock' the drive, but the controller will erase it in the process and then you're really screwed.

Here are some ideas http://tinyurl.com/44rbf2 or a Toshiba agent should be able to do it.

How many laptops still have a parallel port?

Err, no that's the BIOS password. Totally different thing, and I would have just said take the drive out and read it in another computer. HDD passwords are much harder. http://www.laptoptips.ca/security/hard-disk-password/

I haven't consciously looked for any lately, but I'd say there would be some around that still do

Very few, if any lucky to even get an RS232 port these days.
