#1 | | Bought ASUS 1000H Just an update to those who answered my query about buying a notebook. I got it in Albany last Sunday, with XP, (did not have Linux but I was a bit chicken anyway). It has 160Gb hard drive.I think it is great, marvellous, fun and I never thought I would say this about a computer (being born in the Gutenberg Age)but it is beautiful.

#2 | | Good for you I have a newish Asus too, and even though it has an exceptionally annoying little issue at the moment, I love my laptop too. I would hate to have to go back to using a shitty old desktop now. |

#3 | | Would you mind telling us how much you paid for it? I love those laptops. Wouldn't mind one myself. |

#5 | | Ah i sold my big laptop for a asus 901, I love it to bits, battery last 5 hours (with wifi going etc) and it can even run on my 32" TV with no problem (great for media) my one however only has a 12gig SSD (4 for OS and 8gigs for programs etc) but i only use it for the basics and stream movies to it when at home, oh and it runs like a demon on speed :) was thinking about putting windows 7 on it as well, but will leave it for now. |

#9 | | I picked up a "returned" eee 701 Linux from DSE for $ 199(previous owner had it for less than 24 hours and returned it because the battery was faulty, DSE replaced the battery) I love the little thing, its a hell of a lot of fun for what it is. |

#10 | | Just bought a 1000H. 10.1" widescreen, XP Home, 80GB HDD, (but standard 2.5" so easy to change if I want more) Great little machine, good sound, card reader, camera, plus all the normal Ports etc, & Wireless b/g/n and bluetooth. Uses standard 533 DDR2 Ram, but with 1 GB, not much point in going to 2GB. Atom CPU is ample for my needs and ticks over nicely. Brand New sealed in box with 12 month warranty it was $799 incl GST. Apparantley the new 1002H is lighter by about one third and even though it has a 3 Cell Battery compared with the 6 Cell, it lasts just as long. in full Power Saving Mode 7 Hrs. I was watching a movie (avi file) and after 2.5 Hours, that battery was at 69%.. Not Bad at all. |

#12 | | It gets warm if you have it on your lap, but no where as hot as my 15.4" Packard Bell, you could almost fry eggs on that one, but it still never missed a beat. |

#13 | | Also, I was put off by the performance of the SSD Disk as it had very slow write speeds. Copied 2GB of Photo's to an 80GB SSD and it took nearly 5 times as long as on an actual HDD. Reading the photo's back was about the same, possibly a fraction faster on the SSD. Also, the 4GB that the O/S is installed on is a lot faster than the other 72GB "partition". I guess it's an economic decision to have the bulk of the SSD made up of slower speed chips. Will wait a couple of years and look at SSD's again when prices and technology make them more viable.
