Wandering mouse Wandering mouse on my Toshiba Laptop running Windows me---Drives me spare. Is there any way of fixing as I,ve tried other mice and they all take off to the sides every now and again and often take 30secs to come back.

If they are laser, make sure the surface you are using them on isnt uniform (all one colour) as the laser has nothing to track

Toshiba Satellite 1800 series There seems to be no way to fix the wandering cursor syndrome---from what I've gathered on google.

What sort of mouse Is it a touchpad, ball or laser

that is rubbish the laser just requires a surface with sufficient reflectivity to work such as a piece of white A4 which is what I use. I'm guessing it's the mouse port since all mouses seem to do the same thing, it's obviously not the mouses causing the issue.

Laser mice should work on any surface, even black or glass. Regular optical mice work fine on a sheet of paper, they don't need any thing more than a bit of texture. They don't like highly polished or very dark surfaces though. Interestingly, a friend of mine has a plastic table, off-white and close to paper texture which you wouldn't expect to be a problem, but NO optical mice work on it. Not ever.

Its a laser--but I've tried a ball and also another laser and same thing so its not the mouse at fault.

Not sure about mice but there is a known "problem" with toshiba keyboard mice in that if you hold the button in one direction for a while it tends to make the cursor move in the other direction for a few seconds after you stop moving the mouse. If you keep on trying to make the cursor stay to the left say, it will always move right when you take your finger off. The more/longer you try and keep it leftthe more it tries to go right when you take your finger off. The cure is to move the curser and then take your finger off the button, if it moves a bit re position it but do not sit there with your finger on the mouse button for too long or the cursor will start drifting in the opposite direction to what you are trying to achieve.

Help please whiz kids-- as nothing has worked so far. Mouse or rather cursor just takes off of its own free will.

does the cursor still wander when you disconnect the mouse and use your touchpad (I'm assuming your laptop uses a touchpad)?

Just using the toggle goes really wild. how can you disconnect the toggle if you never use it?

sorry, I can't help you. I wondered if the problem was similar to one Mrs Rua had with her USB mouse on her Asus, where the cursor wandered. Shortly afterward it stopped working altogether and then the whole laptop died. It turned out the motherboard had been damaged from a short fall onto its side. Your problem sounds unrelated. Keep Googling - you might find a solution.

Still wanders--goddam mouse it has a mind of its own so it could be a new PC I guess---thought a computer whizz out there may have had a solution.
