Drspy or fixit Hi, m8 has acer rc500, xp pro, sp3, 9600se, 2gb ram. He cannot play any games off cds, any ideas what is missing? Has all updates after new install, all drivers right up to date. Flash, shock, java all up to date.
All cd games play fine my Athlon. It's driving him nuts.

One tech said disable 3d draw etc; in dxdiag, diplay then reenable, still doesn't run games. Games install to hdd ok, but clicking short cut or exe does not start games. No errors pop up.

Have you tried a 'fixed exe'?
geek_pcmaster June 29, 2009, 8:26 pm

Application error log should have entries from prior attempts at running it. which should explain the problem.

I find that I can not play games like Age of Empires without it installed "Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio": http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-DirectX/3000-18513_4-20930.html?tag=mncol

Seeing as my name was mentioned . .. . What video is your comp running? . Is his video a fully supported brand & exact version model version to suit those games? . Was he able to play those perticuler games before? .

Also have the next 2 prg's been installed .net framwork & .net compact framework 2.0 sp2 framwork (Dot net) & the MS visual c++ redistributable prgs been installed. . . . . The "K-lite mega codec pack" is another thats imortant with a lot of games as it supplys a lot of codecs

Dx 9c (minimum) Or dx 2009 should be installed (it will install whats needed). Another possible is that the video system simply won't support those games. Has a registry cleaner such as "ccleaner" been run after the install. That 9600 should be capable of running most (not all) games up to about 2007 releases ok (3 maybe 2 years old/ system ram helps a bit there)
