Scanning a text document to word?

geek_rokidoJune 30, 2009, 2:40 pm#1
Scanning a text document to word? I have a brother MFC 6490cw and am trying to scan a text document so I can work on it. When I tell it to use the OCR function on my MFC the image scans to the computer but then tells me I have no OCR software. Brother have told me it is on the disk we got which we would have used to install the MFC. How do I know if the OCR software is installed or not. Brother technical ass. aren't answering their phone. My OS is XP. Any help? Thanks

You will need to install the OCR software from the disc that came with the Brother machine.

Or google up a freeware OCR program &0;

Ok to install disk again? Because we have already install the disk that came with it and I don't know if the OCR was done at that time will it be okay to install again?

I have the same OS and the same printer. I will have a go for you tonight and see how it goes with mine.

Sorry but I tried tonight and all I got was a paint page. I am a bit tired after doing a 13 hour day but will try again tomorrow. If anyone else can help, I would also like to know how to do this.

I have XP and MS Word The OCR software is listed in
add/remove programs in Control Panel. Also, a OCR registration
facility shows in Start- All Programs

Microsoft onenote?

No I don't have it. I have just checked my control panel/ add and remove programmes for the OCR software and I don't seem to have it. I might try and download it and see if that works.

Good site to download free OCR software? I have had a quick look for free OCR software and some either look dodgie or want to charge me. Can anyone recommend a site that I can use for free. Thanks

Do you have ControlCenter 3 loaded? That was the software that came with my brother MFC. Other option is to look under Start/All Programs/ Brother and let us know what is in that list.

I went into Programmes and brother and there is a list of things. i found control centre opened it and clicked on OCR button. It scanned but still said no OCR software found? I am almost at the stage of just re-typing the whole document and giving up. Thanks.

Simpleocr.com should be OK - it is free.

Code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr is quite accurate, but must be run from the command line over a TIF image.

Was your printer shipped with Paper Port? If so, use that. Iy's great.

Can you run ControlCentre 3? At top right hand corner of that screen is configuration. Select Scan/OCR. What does the drop down box say under OCR Software?
geek_rokidoJuly 1, 2009, 1:13 pm#20
OCR Software is blank. I went Control centre, configuration, Scan, OCR and where it should have said what software it is blank which I quess means I have no OCR software. Which I find odd as I have installed the full version disk that came with the MFC. Might have to phone Brother again?

Hmmm, strange. Mine says PaperPort OCR.
