Hi guys. Can you please on the following auction:- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Desktops/No-monitor/auction-227266824.htm<br /> I'm a little unsure on, "Windows XP Home SP3, with COA license sticker & latest critical updates installed. *Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 (Preinstalled image by hp-Registered& activated -NO Sticker)", as I don't quite understand it. My present system is a 1.5 GHz system, with max 512 MB ram and XP Home. System is about 6-7 years old. Would this one be worth while as I am quite, technophobic, and don't understand so called modern systems. Thanks for any advice..

"Intel Pentium Dual-core CPU E2200@ 2.2Ghz (2X2.2Ghz Equivalent to 4.4Ghz)" 4.4Ghz aye, what's your question ian? it's a lot of money for what you get mate.

I wouldnt have much faith in somebody who either doesnt know what theyre selling, or trying to use the cpu figures to deceive a buyer. Either way its not a good way to promote your goods.

ian - what are your plans for the new computer?

Wonder how long it'll take em to post a reply to my question on tht auction; "would you kindly post a screen shot of some benchmark which shows this running at 'the equivalent of 4.4ghz'....i have a VERY demanding app that requires 3.2ghz minimum can you guarantee that this cpu will run it ?"

Thanks guys Interesting comments already. Shows you have technophobic I am. Re: 0800xford, just a basic home computer. Mines is getting a bit sad and fraded around the edges. Keep getting annoying things going wrong. Done virus checks, do malware san and nothing ever shows. I guess it's just like me, passed my use by date...

Hm......they did answer: "Sorry as I don't have program to know the exact benchmark, it equivelent to performance , no exact idea how your program will handel the cpu speeds, but if you need machine with 3.2Ghz it is available, please inform thanks 7:43 pm, Thu 2 Jul
Question: Hi ya. Can I ask, please about your comment, 2.2Ghz (2X2.2Ghz Equivalent to 4.4Ghz)? Is it really as fast as a 4.4 GHz processor? Windows XP Home SP3 with -NO Sticker)??? I am quite, technophobic and a bit unsure. Thanks, Ian. ianalice1 (186 ) 7:26 pm, Thu 2 Jul
Answer: It is Equivent in performance, it will be different from programs to another, Xp home is with COA sticker 7:4...............Yesssssss......'dont have a program ?......they sell computers and parts.....they'll be VERY WELL AWARE that the speed they're claiming is bullshit

Just posted a question with a link to a free benchmarking program. Will be interesting to see if this nob actually does itPretty doubtful, it'll just prove how full of sh!t he is.

Another seller who deliberately "misunderstands" CPU speed. Do not buy.

It frustrates the hell out of me when people list their computer speed incorrectly

And soo many of them are supposedly "Computer retailers"They out of everyone have no excuse. It is deliberately misleading the public, if Harvey Moron were to do that they're be taken to court for misrepresentation. Trademe should be doing something about this...

On description & Q&A replys only DON'T buy .. . Q: "How is it possible that this will run at 4.4ghz when it's only running a 2.2ghz dual core cpu. Overclocking a 2.2ghz cpu up to 4.4ghz would fry it instantly"

Q. Hi There, I have some very demanding programs I want to run, and this 4.4ghz processor looks the business. If you could please do a benchmark test to show what it's performance is like I will be keen to buy it. You can download a FREE benchmarking program from [www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm]

For poster It's still only a 2.2ghz cpu, But it's got enough grunt that you can load a few prg's without any performance lag. 2.2ghz is EXACTLY THAT 2.2ghz, the dual core simply means that it won't slow down off the max cpu system speed of 2.2ghz untill you exceed the calculation limits of TWO 2.2ghz cpu's. When 1 cpu becomes overloaded THEN the other cpu will kickin to help out but STILL at 2.2ghz cpu system speed. If you have a prg that demands a cpu speed of 2.4ghz, then THAT prg will fail.

Exactly, they work in parallel, not series, so they are not cumulative speeds...

Thanks, mrfxit and whakatanerocks I was wondering about the dual part and if they were two processors in parallel. Explains a lot. Thanks for everyone's input. Makes it a bit easier when looking for an upgrade..

And this is what I posted on the OP's auction "Ah, cores are linked in parallel, not series. So to state that it is a 4.4Ghz processor is completely and utterly wrong. It doesn't have the "performance" of 4.4Ghz either, it is a dual core 2.2Ghz, nothing more. People like you give the computer industry a bad name, all you do it mislead people playing on the fact they do not understand things like this. You should be permanently removed from TM for lying to the public like this. whakatanerocks (6 )"

I don't understand why you guys are crucifying him The listed speed and auction heading state the 2.2GHz clock speed. While the performance comment could be seen as misleading, a program optimised to use two cores could operate equivalently to a 4.4GHz single core. Even outperform the 4.4GHz core. There are far worse examples of misleading behavior than this.
geek_whakatanerocks July 3, 2009, 11:31 am
#28
There are worse examples, but it starts with one. It's not the equivalent of a 4.4Ghz processor, which is what he has stated. "Please read my auction I said equivalent not 4.4Ghz cpu, if I am wrong then correct me , Anyhow i will remove word equivalent if it will make this type of arguments, thanks again" It's NOT the equivalent! Most programs are not optimized to utilize multiple cores...

Here is an interesting graph of multiprocessor power in a real life app (OK a boring stats app). http://www.stata.com/statamp/

It's not right to state that. But given the current market is flooded with auctions of systems listed as being 4.4GHz, I hardly blame them for trying to create a yardstick for comparison.
