Naked Pictures of You / Virus / Spyware Sorry this is a vauge post.
But does anyone know anything about this new virus. A mate of mine in a different NZ city got an e-mail in his Hotmail account that said " I have naked pictures of you" He opened it and it took him to a site, stating that he had to buy this spyware removal stuff for 59.95NZD. He says that after he went to the site his computer froze, He can no longer the start menu, his icons for everything have dissapeared and his computer will no longer shut down properally.

I have googled this and found nothing. If anyone could tell me a bit more about this it would be great, just so I know what I'm dealing with before I go over to see him and try to get rid of it.

Cheers

Heres an idea rather than go over to his place at all, just invite him round to yours. He could logon to hotmail on your computer and show you how it happened.

So if the link he followed has infected the PC, then it is a trojan , but if it is infected with a trojan for use in a botnet why would it be locking up ? This simply increases the chances that the PC will be looked at and the trojan discovered and removed, the point of a botnet trojan is to be running in memory without the user being aware, usually they are polymorphic in order to stay ahead of virus definitions. Disconnect this PC from the net until it has been thoroughly scanned for trojan viruses.

Pretty common these days More then likely to be a smitfraud variant. It's worth a try to use the smitfraud tool & won't hurt your system if it's not that. Another tool i have used for shite like that is "Prevx".
