| If I plug an ethernet cable into my Mac OSX which is in my workshop will that get my non-wireless Mac online or would there be conflict issues? Thought I'd ask before I try. TIA |

What are you plugging into what, again?
If you plug an ethernet cable (which is plugged into a working Modem/Router) into a Mac, yes, it will get it online. |

| My plan was to take my laptop out to workshop and run an ethernet cable from it into my Mac out there which doesn't have wireless (yet), thereby making my windows laptop a defacto router. |

Why don't you just plug it into your actual router?
You have to live with a router for two years before it's defacto. |

| Would need to run cable from router in house to workshop about 18 to 20m in length, would that work ok ? |

Yep, if you have some cable that long (or a friend with a crimping tool to make one up).
I'm guessing you could set it up like you originally said, but I don't know anything about the internet sharing side of things so I can't give you any help with that. |
