Compaq or Toshiba?

#1 | I m purchasing a new lappy and have the choice of either a Toshiba with 160Gb hdd and 2 gigs of ram, or a slightly higher spec Compaq wih 320Gb hdd and 3 gigs of ram both running Win 7 at around $300 more.
Please how do I decide? Which is likely to be the better choice given performance and reliability? | |

#3 | I wouldnt go as far and say HP compaq is the worst brand, I personally would take it over say an asus or acer.
But It depends on what you want laptop for?
If it is going to be your primary PC i would go for the higher specs, if you have a desktop i would go for the Toshiba |

#4 | Having had a furious argument with the so called Compaq support team (overseas based of course, and totally useless when I knew what the problem was, they refused to give me the contact number or address of the local agent. Said they would ring me when the part was in, so when I asked what number they were going to use, as I hadn't given them one, it was gibberish, so in effect, they never would have got back to me. ). Dumped all our Compaqs straightaway.
Toshiba support is so much better. We have three or four Toshiba's of various ages, and although most seem solid, I would use a mouse rather than the touchpad, as that appears to be the Achilles heel.
We always use ours on mains only and remove the batteries unless travelling overseas, but even then, may just take the charger, to save weight.
Regardless of price, or spec, I wouldn't touch a Compaq ever again. |

#5 | | Toshiba - according to consumer magazine last year, Toshiba came 2nd only to Sony in customers service, reliablity etc. The rest had a much higher hardware failure rate, while Sony is a bit more expensive. |

#7 | | I have a toshiba with thise specs you mention running vista. Runs fine. I have lost the onboard sound though to a motherboard malfunction, and i think the fan is starting to pack up. Apart from that though 3 years and still strong. Its a satellite a210. | |
