It just leaves me with one burning question! Why the hell didn't I do it ages ago? ? ! ! !
geek_swivel February 14, 2010, 9:06 am
#2
Because, Ages ago there was no Google Chrome

I agree and IE is just a slow piece of crap that microscum created. Chrome and Firefox are faster to load than bloody IE.

Personally I didn't like GC, and have stuck with FF.
Most banks don't support Google Chrome either, so if you have Internet Banking check with your bank.

Check again. I have accounts with 4 different NZ banks and have not ever had a GC problem with accessing their online banking.

Both my internet banking sites are sweet.

That's your bank's fault, not Chrome's.
I downloaded the updated version the other day (I run Debian) and the only issue I had, memory leaks, has been fixed. 'tis awesome.

Yep Chrome rocks. No issues with internet banking either.

yeah but what about the built in spyware with Chrome
try this same but with out the reporting back to google about your surfing habits & auto updater etc.

KIWIBANK
Which browsers do we support?

Kiwibank Internet Banking is optimised to run on Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) and Firefox 3+.

BNZ
Web browser software*Internet Explorer 6 or higher
Mozilla Firefox 2. 0 or higherApple Safari
Mozilla Firefox 2. 0 or higher

ASB
Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox 2+ (or higher) are compatible for PC users. Macintosh users can use Safari orMozilla Firefox 2+ (or higher).

ANZ
Web browser software

PC* Internet Explorer® 7. x (preferred)
* Internet Explorer® 6. x
* Firefox® 3. x
* Safari?„? 3. x

MAC * Safari?„? 3. x

although you can use GC with your Internet Banking, I'm just saying most Banks don't fully support it or test their banking sites to make sure there are no compatiblity issues with GC.

Turn Javascript and cookies off while you're at it, and disable images to stop being tracked.
To be really sure, you should use a text based console browser such as lynx and cycle all requests through a range of proxy servers.

Sigh! ! Shall we novices just give up perhaps! !

Yes to Chrome. Seems a lot faster? Some things a bit tricky- like where/ how do you save new bookmarks? And where can I find out more about the Chrome system for bookmarks generally?
geek_cybertao March 3, 2010, 11:00 am

There is a star to the left of the current url in the address bar. Clicking it bookmarks the page and a dialog pops up so you can set what folder it's put into.
By default I think there is only 'Bookmarks Bar' and 'Other Bookmarks', but you can easily create new folders from the Bookmark Manager. You can put folders in the Bookmarks Bar as well.
The Bookmark Bar can be set to always be up the top, or only seen on the New Tab quick-dial page.

If there any particular reason as to why you've never tried Firefox?

How does it stack up against Safari?

I started using Chrome today as well, one thing though, on Facebook chat, if I write something then minimize that chat window, then the person replies, I open it back up and all the conversation is gone (like it's just all white and I have to ask them to say it again - but I keep the chat window open the second time). So annoying.

The only banking problem I have find with chrome is not that you can't do your banking as you can. However if youwant to us " Poli online payment i. e for land transport transactions" you have to use IE as it doesn't work with chrome.

I have been using chrome for six months or more and did so after firefox kept crashing on me. I have found it heaps faster to use than Firefox.

I have recently put in ubuntu and have been disappointed with the speed of the Firefox that comes with it. I have been trying to figure out how to install chrome on Ubuntu but might have to look at Iron now given #10 above.

For Ubuntu go here http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html

Choose the . deb version and 32 bit unless you have a 64 bit install

@linzis
Chrome uses Webkit for rendering, same engine used by Safari
If banks say it will work in Safari then it will work in Chrome

IIRC Chrome uses a completely different Javascript interpreter to Safari, so you might still run into some unexpected behaviour
