it doesn't open a new page but takes out the one I'm on & then I have
back to Google Chrome to get the page I was originally on.

Is it the Google Chrome? (I'm using my son's notebook til he can get some time to sort mine. )

Super annoying!

Don't know but as a work around hold down the Ctrl key when clicking links should open in a new tab.

Browsers are supposed to work like that.
If you want to go back a page, you click the 'back' button. If you want to open the link in a new page or tab, right click on it and select 'in New Tab' or 'in New Window'.

ok, i was just trying to ascertain if it is even "google chrome"
you just confirmed that it is.

look in your preferences and see if there's anything obvious like "recycle tabs" or "open in old tab"
are you using linkification? [does chrome even have this? ]
geek_cybertao February 27, 2010, 11:40 am
#14

Ok wrench icon said New Tab Cntrl + T.

So is this his personal setup or is a nationwide thing Chrome?
geek_cybertao February 27, 2010, 11:43 am
#16
Ctrl + T is the shortcut to open a new tab in most browsers. You can do the same by clicking the '+' to the right of the open tabs.

so do you have any goofy add-ons?
this -was- working as [you] expected then suddenly changed, or?
do you have google chrome on your computer to compare differences in settings, or?
geek_mme February 27, 2010, 12:17 pm
#22
No I don't use google chrome on mine. C me at #19

I really can't remember how it went last time I borrowed his a couple of weeks ago. He's uncontactable atm. I'll likely hear from him when he wants it back.

I had it for over a week now & have had to sort 2 other annoying goofy things with the help of some of the on - duty members of this forum.

Best I get mine fixed & then I won't need to stress.

It's not your computer ... so why not control-click on a link or right-click and choose "open link in new tab" (or similar wording). Changing someone else's preferred settings is a tad rude, wouldn't you say?
