A clean install of a new Windows 7 is best, but you can upgrade with a very small risk to system stability. See http://is. gd/9icth for example.

Upgrades can be very painful, go for the clean install.

Is simply changing the product key an option or not? ?

Start/run... Type "winver" without quotes. Hit enter for exact version.

As mentioned in another similar thread

There is always the option of getting it from itsnotcheating in Oz. Just need someone at uni over there and can get the Win7 Pro for $50 and you can do a clean install with that as well. No previous version of windows needed

If not showing on initial screen use teh little arrows on bottom pictures to bring up offer.

Now all you have to do is get one of your freinds/rellies that dont want it for themselves to get it for you. It says only one but you do have the option of getting both a 32 bit and 64 bit under the same offer.

Justa point of interest; in the sources directory on the win7 home prem install dvd is a file named product. ini, which is chock full with usable serials.
