friend has brought her comp round after windows updated her to IE8, its a hp compaq running windows XP, it just keeps going through the start up mode and gives the options to start normally, last known and safe mode but neither is working, any suggestions would be great

"last known" is a good option to try first.

Yes I did, none of the options are kicking over, just counting down and restarting
