why would you want to remove it ? to save space ? stupid idea it takes up minimal amount of space AND many many many webpages use java script and if you dont have java installed then you're goin to have problems surfing the net... ...

ooops lol. Yeh but either way removing java might be a bit dumb.

If you run any applications that are java based (there are not many, I am not sure if open office relies on it though earlier versions of sun office did), you should keep it.

Most web things do not use java anymore, they use flash so you could probably uninstall it and not even miss it.

Open Office ask for it but will work without it and if you have any cell phone software on your computer then it may need it. The Nokia suite for example needs it.
