#1 | OK. My grandson has asked me to find him the 'best' and the cheapest DIALUP internet connection that is not broadband. He has a cellphone but no landline yet so needs a landline as well.
Basically it is for him about afforability. He believes he cannot afford a phone plus Broadband. He lives in Hasrings.
Any ideas? or tell me where to look please. Thanks. V | |

#3 | Hi V, Kiwi online has the cheapest dial up at $10 for unlimited however he has to have that landline which does cost a fair bit.
I would like to offer a suggest if thats alright, Has he thought about naked DSL. you can get boardband without a landline from some ISP these days.
I use the XNET fusion plan. |

#4 | Best of luck too him. Dial up was alright back when it was all we knew, back in the time before people had even heard of broad band. But that was 10 years ago. The Internets changed since then. Pages have been made bigger and flashier. With more graphics and sparkly frills designed to take advantage of the high speed internet access available to the masses. Dial up can no longer cope properly with today's internet. It's false economy. |

#6 | Just did a quick search for Naked DSL aka boardband you dont need a phoneline for.
These looked to be the best and cheapest results if he wanted an idea of how much boardband would be: http://www.snap.net.nz/home/naked-dsl/

#8 | | NOt if it's all you can afford! And as for anyone suggesting KOL, obviously never used them. Worst possible choice. Even if they were half their price would be too much. |

#11 | Slingshot give you free dial up internet with a homeline plan (starts around $45pm i think). http://www.slingshot.co.nz/Dialup. aspx
If you want broadband, then look at the next big thing - which is about $70 for the cheaper plans inc BB, Phone, router, other stuff. http://www.slingshot.co.nz/NextBigThing. aspx |

#12 | Hey i have used them and they have great costumer service and the pricing is way cheaper than telescums dial up price. But dial up is only good for web pages that are only made up of text these days, websites are being built for BB not dial up which can make it hard to load pages with all the images.
But there is no way to play modern games on dial up anymore, i hate being on anything less then 4mb/s down. =P |
