Auto installing old video card drivers - Windows 7

#1 | Our old Dell Dimension 2400 (pentium 4) has recently been upgraded to Windows 7 with no major issues. However we have one really annoying thing that we are trying to fix.
We had to upgrade the video card and have no problems with that. However, the old video card is soldered to the PC and therefore cannot be removed. Every time we reboot, Windows 7 detects the old video card, installs the drivers and then disables all the cool aero features for Win 7. We then disable the old card, reset aero features and all is normal again... . . until a reboot and the same thing happens. Really annoying, can't find anywhere to permanently disable the old card (which has nothing plugged into it anyway). And also can't find any way to disable the auto install of drivers - but surely it must be somewhere... . can anyone help us solve this? Thanks in advance.

#2 | how are you disabling the old card after the driver install ?
If you are doing it in device manager the system should not be 'hassling' you again about it... . . do you have the old card disabled in the bios... ... ... ... |

#3 | | It has been disabled in the device manager. Tried to do it in BIOS but it wasn't there. Almost like the disabling doesn't work for some reason. |

#4 | you say that every time you boot up win 7 it detects the old card (even tho you've 'disabled' it) and INSTALLS THE DRIVERS ?
are you removing the drivers before you disable it ? ... . uninstalling in device manager ?
cause otherwise I cant comprehend why it'd be installing the drivers ? ... ... . . as for 'soldered onto the motherboard' that means it's 'onboard' and there WILL be a way to disable it in device manager... . . |

#5 | | That's what I can't figure out. When we disable it in device manager the drivers aren't removed - or not by us anyway, but they then get installed again when it reboots. We are not uninstalling - only disabling. I will investigate a bit more, my son and I are doing this - and it's our first rebuild so we're learning as we go. The PC still works fine, just one of those annoying things that I don't want to let beat me. Thanks for your help anyway. |

#7 | | Thanks Kane199, I'll have a look at that. It is an old machine and I haven't updated the bios - not sure how to do it even! |

#8 | If you do ever decide to do it make sure you dont lose power while doing so, you can brick your motherboard.
