iWork Pages tip for missing index.xml

I came across my first missing index. xml when trying to open an important Pages document, I had a back up but it was from yesterday afternoon DUH! I had made to many changes to bother working on it again so I found a quick fix.

The apple forums are full of good idea but this was was so simple and fast.

1. Duplicate the offending file (just in case)
2. Command+igets you the info window
3. Replace . pages with . zip
4. Double click on the file icon, it will unzip to a folder.
5. Command+i again
6. Add a . pages suffix to the folder

You folder will be rebuilt into a pages document.
If this doesn't work check that index. xml is called index. xml and not index_xxxx. xml.

Hi, I did everything you said and I got really close!! Now when I try to open my document (which is in Numbers) it says I need a newer version of Numbers to open it...but I don't have one, so I don't know how I could have done this. Any tips? THANK YOU!

The .zip worked and opened the document into a folder with document in readable form. When I switched from ,zip to ,pages, it went back to original comment of xml file missing. Help.

I tried..juste after i've moved to the 5.5.2 version of pages...

I noticed that there is no index.xml file into the zipped file...and when i'm about to re-open it into a pages version, it says "you should have a newer version of pages to open this file"...the problem is : I have the latest version of pages...i'm about to turn back to microsoft word...since 20 hours lost...just because of an update...since S. Jobs is dead, everything seems to turn in shit by apple...

I created the pages document on a new iPad; I've done as advised but there is no index.xml when I open it in Pages'09 (4.3), only a folder called index. I added the .xml to it etc but I just get the message "you need a new version of pages (which I don't want).
My solution is to export from the iPad as a Word document and then open it in pages on my iMac (clumsy & could be problematic).

This worked for my numbers file, using the suffix .numbers in the last step. Thanks!
