Acer doesn't recognise the CD after XP reinstall

What steps should I be taking to rectify it? The LED flashes when a CD is installed, but won't allow me to burn or read.

check device manager for errors.........have you installed all the drivers ?

It doesn't show as an eror - doesn't show at all. In device manager, where would the CD drive normally be located? I'm certain it's a driver error.

restart the pc check bios to see if the cd drive is showing in there
if it's not then open the comp and check the cables.

Try this as well ...

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Curr-
entControlSet\Control\Class\{4-
D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE-
10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Curr-
entControlSet\Control\Class\{4-
D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE-
10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor.

Restart computer.

OK! Will do.

That's not a new version of DEL *.* is it?!

No ... it is a known fault that can cause the CDROM not to recognised by Windows XP. Just one of many reasons why it wouldn't show under "My Computer"

Won't harm anything apart from burning programs like Nero etc , which you may have to re-install.
