ADSL stats Anyone???

geek_ianalice1, May 29, 4:03 pm

Divide your line attenuation by 14.

geek_julieandcasper, May 29, 5:27 pm

Slightly more than 2 km from exchange. Expect to sync at between 12 and 14 Mbps if on adsl2+ exchange. Otherwise 8 Mbps if on adsl only - note the dlinks won't even do 8.

I wish we were getting ADSL2. I asked the Mayor today and he had no idea.

geek_julieandcasper, May 29, 7:20 pm

spyware. Just been to speedtest.net and got 3132 D/L & 131 U/L, rarely got any higher, even when I was only 500 meters from exchange. Must be the dam D-Link DSL-502T??? Ian

When you were close, could be congestion as well. Or your ISP; despite what some people say, some ISPs really do throttle back especially on cheaper accounts. IHUG was bloody horrible for doing that, then Woosh. Soon as I switched from them, BAM, trippled my speed. Also, some ISP's run out of bandwidth with their overseas suppliers. Xnet has that trouble at times because of their growth. When they purchase more, they get back to speed again. Plus, during peak times they can slow dramatically. Xnet for one is trying to even out the load by offering off-peak heavy user plans.

geek_willz29, May 30, 6:42 pm

geek_spyware, May 30, 8:00 pm

geek_spyware, May 30, 8:01 pm

Thank you, Here we go DSL Noise Margin: 16.3 dB 12.0 dB
DSL Attenuation: 56.0 dB 31.5 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 17.1 dBm 12.2 dBm

geek_willz29, May 30, 8:11 pm

Does that mean I would be 4km away from the exchange?
