Outlook / Xtra / Yahoo (.co.nz) Server Settings

Hi all..I know this has been asked often before,
Have just had to install Outlook Express in friend's laptop,
& re-do server settings etc..to configure Xtra t-stick & Yahoo for email set-up
..Did a search in here earlier, & noticed several (helpful) posters referring others to various "how-to" forums & sites...
..& sadly,not always a good outcome..

So,.. In the hope this helps those poor souls still trying to get their old Yahoo.co.nz email set up for outlook & a new Xtra mobile broadband..

...Thing is.. No-one ( even the helpdesks at Xtra AND Yahoo ) ever seems to mention that you need to re-set your (yahoo) mail options to enable xtra to forward/download mail
So....In "options" bar,(when logged into Yahoo mail)
..click "Mail Options" from drop down menu
...in menu on left,
...click "POP & Forwarding"
...then check "Allow your Yahoo!Xtra Mail to be POPed"
...click "save changes" at top.

Then, ..For Outlook ( & Express) settings,
...In Tools >> Accounts >> Properties
...Under "Servers" tab...
Incoming: pop.mail.yahoo.co.nz
Outgoing: send.xtra.co.nz
.....& Tick "My server requires authentication"
...Click "Settings" tab
....select "Log on using"
..then enter your yahoo email addy & password,
...(tick remember password)
( Do Not tick "Log on using secure password)
...click on OK
...click on "Apply" now that you're back in server tab
click OK

Hope this is of some use to someone
( I found it really frustrating followikng the advice of dim-bulbs at the "help" desk,)

Cheers.

Hi all. Just posting this as a "how-to",
as I see this has been asked often before,
Have just had to install Outlook Express in friend's laptop,& re-do
server settings etc.to configure Xtra t-stick & Yahoo for email set-up
.Did a search in here earlier, & noticed posters being referred to various "how-to" forums & sites.
.& sadly,not always a good outcome.
(esp. for old-type { pre"bubble"} yahoo email acct's )

So,. In the hope this helps those poor souls still trying to get their old Yahoo.co.nz email set up for outlook & a new Xtra mobile broadband.

.Thing is. No-one ( even the helpdesks at Xtra AND Yahoo ) ever seems to mention that you need to re-set your (yahoo) mail options, & outlook settings, to enable xtra to forward/download mail
So.In "options" bar,(when logged into Yahoo mail)
.click "Mail Options" from drop down menu
.in menu on left,
.click "POP & Forwarding"
.then check "Allow your Yahoo!Xtra Mail to be POPed"
.click "save changes" at top.

Then, .For Outlook ( & Express) settings,
.In Tools >> Accounts >> Properties
.Under "Servers" tab.
Incoming: pop.mail.yahoo.co.nz
Outgoing: send.xtra.co.nz
.& Tick "My server requires authentication"
.Click "Settings" tab
.select "Log on using"
.then enter your yahoo email addy & password,
.(tick remember password)
( Do Not tick "Log on using secure password)
(.click on OK
.click on "Apply" now that you're back in server tab)
Go to "Advanced" tab
.Outgioing mail (SMTP).
tick "This server requires authentication", & type "465" into port no.
.Incoming mail (POP3)
.tick "This server requires authentication", & type "995" into port no
.Apply
.OK.

Hope this is of some use to someone
( I found it really frustrating followikng the advice of dim-bulbs at the "help" desk,)

Cheers.
