Recommendation for a Laser Printer

I am looking at buying a new Laser printer for small business use and would like some recommendations.

Looking for a laser printer with at least the following specs:

Network capable (ethernet preferably) will be used with numerous Macs
250 page tray (would prefer 500, or to buy a 2nd tray)
monochrome
ability to to handle 1000 - 5000 pages a month
28+ ppm
1200 x 1200 dpi
more than 64MB memory.

What brands are the best to buy. Have seen the Oki B440 as well as numerous Brother models. Thanks.

Go with OKI

Oki can be expensive if duplexing is involved, because when it's set to double sided print, it uses 2 cycles for even single pages. I have a B410n that has only used 1 Drum and abandoned it because of this.
Personally, I'd go for Kyocera with the lifetime drum unit. A bit more expensive, but works out cheaper for consumables.

HP and canon are good laser brands, and never had problems with them.

Thanks for that. Had a HP P3005 which was working great until last week when it started to crease pages (only 2 years old).

Depends how much use it has had, as they do have duty cycles. 2 years may not be bad if it has had heavy business use. Genrally they are pretty easy to repair too, as it is often just the rubber rollers that need replacing as they wear, which sounds like it could be the problem with yours.

Thanks for that, could very well be a roller, every 5 pages seem to crease, it was making funny noises the other day as well so just easier to cut losses and get a new one. We don't really have the knowledge to repair it either.

We had a HP 2100TN that was bought over 10 years ago. This is still going strong and has seen twice the workload of the P3005 just too slow to print a 400 page document.

The OKI Drum does 20,000 pages and costs about $220, but as I said, with duplexing that ended up being ony 10,000 pages.

OKI 440N Printer Cost $486.00
Toner $18012,000 pages
Drum Unit $22020,000 Pages

The Kyocera ECOSYS FS-1370DN has a 100,000 Page Drum

Cost of Kyocera Printer $650
Toner $1407,500 Pages.

So for 100K Pages which is about the life of a Laser Printer.

For OKI you need 4 Drums and 8 Toners + Printer
Total Cost $2,324

For the Kyocera you need 12 Toners + Printer
Total Cost $2,330

Not a lot in it if you aren't duplexing,
If you were, then it double the OKI Drums to 9 (an extra $1,100) which is a big difference:-)

Usually a problem with the thermal roller.
5 Common Causes
1. Rubber breaking down on Thermal Roller and allowing toner to stick.
2. Temperature wrong, not sealing toner correctly.
3. After Market Toner rated wrong temperature
4. Toner Density too thick
5. Moisture in paper.

Thanks d.snell, will certainly look into the kyocera.
