Scanner 16bit/ 64bit computer

Is there any free generic scanner driver that will allow a 64 bit computer (Windows 7) to scan a 16bit Canoscan!

See if your scanner is here. Then look for a 64-bit driver.

Nah, I've looked there, but thanks. I was hoping there might be a free alternative to vuescan.

There won't be a generic scanner driver, AFAIK.

Linux supports some Canoscans, if you were feeling adventurous you could set it up in Virtualbox and use it that way. Check that Linux supports your specific scanner model before going to all that trouble.

To my surprise someone has actually done this with an N650U:

Go to http://www.hamrick.com/ and download VueScan. It allows scanners that don't have x64 drivers to work.I have used it on a Canon on Win7 64bit.Text from there site: VueScan 9 works on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It supports older scanners that don't work on newer operating systems, including most Canon LiDE, Epson Perfection, Nikon CoolScan and HP OfficeJet scanners.

It costs but if you do a google search, some sites have a free version for trial.
