Please help! Black screen.

So a few days ago my laptop (Lenovo y560p) screen just stopped and now is black. The laptop turns on, fan comes on, lights in keyboard etc but nothing on the screen. Have tried removing battery/holding power button/removed memory/fn key etc. any other ideas? I'm no computer tech but do I need to buy a new one? :-(
thanks for any advice

Have you tried an external screen/monitor/TV?

yes tried that also and nothing.

Have you googled? I did. Looks like a common fault.
e.g. "Its a dead graphic card. Almost all the y560 users have experienced this. You could try putting a coin inbetween the heatsink and the gpu. It may work. But my solution was motherboard replacement." was the last post on https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y560-Black-Screen-After-Boot-Up/td-p/449645

Please confirm that you get nothing at all on the screen, even BIOS startup text flashing past.

that's correct, nothing at all on screen. So if I need to replace motherboard might as well just get new laptop then I'm assuming. thanks for the help
