MAME Arcade Machine

Has anyone built or know of anyone that has built a MAME upright arcade cabinet? Looking for anyone in Auckland

Yes to having built a MAME cabinet, but no to upright, it's a bartop, and I'm not in Auckland.
1 out of 3. not bad!

Nice one Steve. I was thinking about building an upright cabinet running either mame or my xbox360.

Yep but he sold it ages ago now.
He had a screen you could move 180 degrees, so side scroll or vertical scroll.
And it had about 100 games to choose from.
left the coin slot in, and made it optional. LOL>

Actually I shouldn't say like that, it is that hhaha, I remember going to Bunnings and buying sheets of mdf with no clue what or how I was going to make one, but 3 years later with enthusiasm dropping off lots it is at least finished.

Has anyone made a visual pinball machine ? Thinking of doing one on the Williams wide body design, but gets expensive by the time I buy a 46 inch, 32 and 19 inch LCD s

NZSpacies! Proper Jamma board and everything

I got their 619 cabinet for $750 on special.

geek_serpico_nz, Jun 8, 5:28 pm

I know someone who got one from them, a cocktail cabinet. Very poorly made, rough edges on perspex, not glass on top. Using computer monitor speaker only, would have cost $10 more to put a decent speaker in, poor wiring inside, cheap buttons and joysticks.

I certainly wouldnt buy one after seeing it.

geek_shall, Jun 8, 6:08 pm

Damn that sucks! Mine looks mint.

geek_serpico_nz, Jun 14, 4:44 pm

how long ago did you get yours ? I saw one for sale here and it was from the guy who used to own spacies, sounds like he is trying to say he built them better then

from what i have seen id believe him :)

Heh, that was me :) I set up and ran spacies for a few years. The 'About U's page on the website is still my story. I still visit the old business and I get a bit upset but they rely on volume rather than quality which was my focus.

A few examples of scratch built machines:

I remember playing a species one in burger fuel Sylvia park . Loved it, but the recent one from spaces is very poor. Not my problem though. I built my own and at least it has glass not badly cut Perspex :)

Definitely a change in quality

I am going to add a speaker to mates one, and tidy up the wiring

geek_shall, Jun 16, 7:35 pm

I built the original one for Sylvia Park. This was it: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=888727336 I used the photo from Sylvia Park in the listing. I haven't been in to see the 'new one' but I will.

Since the new owner of spacies is pumping out the machines and made them cheap, no one wants to pay for a high quality machine anymore. Cheap buggers!

geek_thecoolshop, Jun 16, 9:02 pm

How come you got out of making them ? I'm thinking of making a virtual pinball LCD next
