How do I change DNS settings?

i am operating an iPad Air and want to change DNS settings to accommodate watching block-us. I was originally with Telstra clear but they are now Vodafone. Can someone please advise what number to use. The router I have is generic that I've had for about 2.5 years and got from Telstra clear. Apologies if any of this info is wrong, not sure what I need to provide.

Thanks lostdude, however, it only says how to change DNS which I already know, it's the DNS number to change to that I don't know.

8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 are the Google ones
208.67.220.220 & 208.67.222.222 are the OpenDNS ones
There are others, but the above are most commonly used.

I wanted to do this as well. I am with Telstra in Oz and have a Netgear router and I'm on cable. Unfortunately after alot of fiddling around and then googling, I discovered that you cannot have a static IP with cable. Don't know if it's just a thing with Telstra or what? Brassed me off because I now have to have a separate VPN on every device and I can't cast Netflix USA to my large TV.
