Difficulty opening iTunes on desktop.

Over the last weeks, I have had to reboot the desktop several times to make iTunes open. And, when it does, it goes through the interminable "checking iTunes library". This week, it has not always recognised my iPhone.

I am tempted to uninstall and reinstall but unsure of how to reinstall my music, video and audiobooks library.

Any easy solution gratefully received?

I run Windows and Office 7, incidentally.

Yes, all up to date. Wish I could blame the updates but the issue has been building up for a few weeks.
