Samsung laptop just died after system update

My laptop just went through one of those automatic system updates, shutting down, etc and now says it cannot start. Went through Startup Repair and previously I have been able to run a restore if this didn't work. This time it says I have no restore points. When I look at the repair details, it says a patch is preventing the system from starting. Is it recoverable?

with no restore points it might be a problem but you could try

chkdsk c: /r

from the command prompt which should be one of the repair options . This will run a file system check on the HDD, the long version is several hours

Probably an unstable system if its done it before and the update pushed it over the edge. Try unplugging, remove battery, hold down power button 30 seconds and try again.

Ok, did the battery thing. Didn't help. Just ran the chkdsk .

Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

Mean anything?

One possibility is a virus. Mentioned on the last post of page 2 on the 3 pages here. www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/system-recovery-options-help

But perhaps run SFC from an admin command prompt, first.

geek_r.g.nixon, Jul 30, 8:28 pm

ok . SFC is what?

geek_arthur-dailey, Jul 30, 8:30 pm

No issues with the file system - error is normal as the eventlog service isn't running at that point

System File Check

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

have we tried safe mode / last known good etc?

geek_king1, Jul 30, 9:11 pm

. and the response is Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

geek_arthur-dailey, Jul 30, 9:16 pm

I don't get an option to start in safe mode. I'm not great at this stuff .

geek_arthur-dailey, Jul 30, 9:17 pm

try your luck here for safe mode etc

geek_king1, Jul 30, 9:21 pm

ok, into safe mode and chose last known good config. No luck .

Back up your files from the disk and do a clean install.

geek_exwesty, Jul 30, 10:07 pm

How do I back up my files? I can't get the laptop to work.
