what brand best value for pensioner

I'd go for an ex-lease Dell. Well I've used a few. They were cheap and well made. Don't get the GX520, too old really. I've used that, but my GX620 was better. and now my Dell 755 is better again. Look for Dell 780 also.

I would second Dell. All of our desktops have been Dell in the past and we have been happy with them.

I just looked. There are some good Dell Optiplex 780 machines for sale. e.g. auction 909588942 (includes 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Pro). You will need your own monitor, keyboard & mouse.

I second Dell as well. Our two are really old like over 10 years. The newer one is still used as the scanner runs through it, the geriatric one hasn't been started for awhile. I also have a Dell laptop which is over 10 years old. Just had it running now so I could access a funding application whose site can only be accessed using IE.
