Harvey Normans returns policy?

geek_neecapzJuly 21, 2008, 11:29 pm#1
Harvey Normans returns policy? Can anyone help me, just bought a new computer today and got convinced to purchase Norton 360 security suite with it. Get home tonight and discover an email from Telecom offering all xtra customers free internet security suite! Havne't touched my Norton one so want to return it...anyone know if they will let me? thanks :)
geek_got2bin2winJuly 21, 2008, 11:47 pm#2
They should Unless you have opened it, removed the cellophane no one will accept software returns if opened unless faulty.
geek_hanmerJuly 21, 2008, 11:55 pm#3
Walk in very confidentally and tell them you don't want norton because it is the biggest sh$$under the sun.
geek_morrisman1July 22, 2008, 12:28 am#4
Windows is a big turd installing nortons is like rubbing your face in it, then paying to rub it again next year.
geek_puddleduck00July 22, 2008, 12:35 am#5
Lmao well put morrisman.
geek_blenheim-traderJuly 22, 2008, 1:11 am#6
Only good product Norton's sells is "Norton's Ghost" and if you install any of there other software you will be using it soon enough.......
geek_neecapzJuly 22, 2008, 9:05 am#7
Hehe thanks guys will give them a ring shortly. Just worried they might say i can't return it as they 'gave me a good price" on other bits because i bought a few add-ons such as mouse, bag, discs, and office compare (please don't tell me thats shite as well, lol)
geek_nzoomedJuly 22, 2008, 9:09 am#8
Tell them that norton is rubbish and i dont want a program installed that slows dowm my nice new computer, that they made out i should have and it should be in harvey normans best interests to only sell quality software like nod32 that DOES look after your computer.
geek_electro64July 22, 2008, 10:55 am#9
in otherwords - lie. My guess is that if the person bought Nortons with other stuff with a discount - that they'd have trouble getting a refund. You could always just sell it on trademe, unopened.
geek_electro64July 22, 2008, 10:56 am#10
Sorry that should have been ...
geek_tigraJuly 22, 2008, 11:17 am#11
Despite some of the biased advice offered, thats not a good reason to get a refund. Really you are just changing your mind and under the C.G.A. thats not a valid reason to get a refund. You will need to prove its got something wrong with it and even then HN can choose to replace it. Still its a buyers market at the moment so they make be nice and give you your money back to keep up the goodwill. As long as its unopened.
geek_pixmaJuly 22, 2008, 12:30 pm#12
What I find funny thgough is; on wikipedia about Norton (sigh), it has something like "da da da, norton has been known to slow down pcs, but version 2006 and onwards are alot better", someones been lying lol
geek_nzoomedJuly 22, 2008, 12:59 pm#13
Lol ive heard it too that the 2006 versions are better all i do know is i will never use norton again nor will i use mcaffe again either. if its unopened you may be able to return it, what security suite does xtra provide anyway? i did not think that it was any good, i dont think its any antivirus
geek_neecapzJuly 22, 2008, 10:27 pm#14
Nzoomed it is from McAfee, link follows: http://www.smartmailpro.co.nz/redirect.aspx?xr99=922A2AF5ECF043C6B9487AFE7F51FC83&xr66=B4D191DA<br />1056458A8E53BC455896FD51 I might be ok though even though Harvey Normans don't sound helpful...am going to send hubby in in the morning to fight it out with them but failing that it seems Symantec have a 60 day money back guarantee on the product so I just need to send it back to them directly. It's printed on the packet that I hadn't taken much notice of! Strange that the Harvey Norman guy didn't think to tell me that when I rang him today...doesn't give me much faith in his product knowledge!
geek_nzoomedJuly 22, 2008, 10:33 pm#15
Yeah norton does do the money back in 60 days i would not be too worried about the outcome, as you should be able to get a refund if you dont want it, although norton will probably take ages to send you the refund. The xtra security suite looks ok, but if you dont like the way mcafee from xtra runs on your computer and feel its slow, dont renew the licence after it expires in the first year.
geek_got2bin2winJuly 22, 2008, 10:38 pm#16
It should be simple as really, like with MS products it clearly states in all there license agreements when installing if you don't agree with it don't install and take it back to the place of purchase for full refund, end of story. I don't know if thats what nortons license policy is but must be similar.
geek_swivelJuly 23, 2008, 8:13 am#17
2 things. Was the Purchase one of the HN Package deals ?? as if it was then it was your fault. Number 2 (which I see a few times) Did you systen have Nortons installed or McAfee installed (as if so, just tell them that and you'll get your money back) also the serge protector
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 8:47 am#18
Swivel , no not a package as such, he just managed to cross sell me other products - the Norton 360, Office Compare (which I have installed but not looked at yet), a mouse, a pen drive and some CD's. Yeah he saw me coming, didn't he!? husband took off with Norton thing this morning to go have a go with Harvey norman...he's tougher and much much less likely to cry than me, hahaha so I made him do it!
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 8:49 am#19
Swivel no my old pc didn't have nortons or mcafee installed, it has AVG free (should I duck for cover now? ;) )
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 4:46 pm#20
OK so Harvey Normans stuck to their guns and wouldn't accept a return of the unused Norton 360 but did give a web address for return directly to Symantec. Why the heck didn't salesman tell me this on the phone yesterday when I first told him I didn't want Norton 360?? Also just realised when i went to copy all my photos on old pc to disc, that he sold me the wrong discs. I told him I wanted to copy my photos from old pc to new via disc and also keep as a backup and so I picked up a pack of cdr's in the shop and he said no they are the wrong ones you want dvdr's and what a bonus these ones come with a free movie...I thought oh well he's surely the expert.
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 4:46 pm#21
Cont He never asked what I had at home and now I find out yes I did in fact need the ones I went for, the cdr's not dvdr's as it turns out I only have a cd writer not dvd writer on old pc...grr again! Of course I can't return these as I have opened them and stuck one in my cd writer and I have learnt by now that their customer care and returns policy is rather lacking to say the least...when I said HE put me wrong he said how was he to know I didn't have a dvd writer - i said well i didn't know either but i did know I had used cdr's before successfully and wasn't it up to him to use open questions to find out instead of just telling me what I need without finding out what I want? Anyway I will copy my photos instead using the 4gb pen drive thing he sold me (hope that works haha!) and then copy photos to my shiny new dvdr's from new pc....hope that works!
geek_swivelJuly 23, 2008, 5:02 pm#22
Bummer All the Retail personal want the bonus they get, They don't care. The little shops are the ones.
geek_tigraJuly 23, 2008, 10:21 pm#23
Actually necapz you can ask for your money back or the right product. Under the CGA goods have to be right for purpose and if you told him waht you wanted and he gave you something else they must either refund or give you the correct goods. Go in and demand it tell him to go read the Consumer Guarantees Act.If he wont make a big noise and ask for the manager. You are in the right on this.
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 10:40 pm#24
That is true tigra but I have calmed down a bit now and can't be bothered stressing myself out over psyching myself up for a showdown (which I would do, wind myself right up to the point of losing sleep over it..dumb I know but thats me...that's what I did on Monday night after deciding I wanted to return it, after going to bed at midnight then having my 4 yr old up unable to sleep from 2-3.30am! Then master almost 2 was awake at 6!). Yesterday was a long day in this house! At least i have learnt alot this week...such as don't shop at Harvey Normans again...I have learnt the difference between Outlook Express and Outlook 2007...i have learnt about cd and dvd writers and discs, and that Norton is a crock of sh*te...I have learnt all of this in TMMN Computing so thanks all....its alot nicer here than it is in Parenting hehehe
geek_neecapzJuly 23, 2008, 10:43 pm#25
Ahh that should be TMMB Computing! Getting late for me so better go to bed in case the kids keep me awake all night again...one of them just woke a few minutes ago looking for his cuddly!
geek_swivelJuly 24, 2008, 8:28 am#26
Tigra Won't work. They Will just give her the details for Nortons returns.
geek_poohy99July 24, 2008, 10:11 am#27
I'm shocked at Harvey-Norman's return policy. A decent shop such as Dick Smith would not even blink at returning unopened goods. And since the software was "recommended" by the staff rather than simply chosen by the customer, that's doubly bad.
geek_le-spikeJuly 24, 2008, 11:01 am#28
Tell Them you will get fair go involved. They work wonders.
geek_swivelJuly 24, 2008, 11:07 am#29
Le-spike wouldn't work. It must be the store there, I know HN here in Hastings has taken them back. So it will just be the store staff
geek_neecapzJuly 24, 2008, 2:13 pm#30
Thanks le-spike but I am just not going to shop there again, and tell anyone who cares to listen not to shop there either! And I have along memory....years ago I had a bad experience with Flight Centre while booking my honeymoon of all things, had a real fight on my hands to get my deposit back (long story but basically they promised to beat any other price which i accepted and paid deposit on but then they added taxes on the top which were already included in the other quotes they were "beating"). The travel consultant even stooped to verbally insulting me so I went right to the top and got what I wanted plus a $50 duty free gift voucher as their apology. I still have not nor will ever set foot anywhere near Flight Centre. Anyway nothing to do with computing is it but there you go....a little decent customer service goes a long way and bad customer service is remembered forever!
