Easiest one i found to use is Actually made by Uniden. http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/prspy/prod42235.html I used to sell both Navman and Uniden navigational systems, Uniden always got the best feedback (and yes i have used one myself as i bought the Uniden 8400)

_sexylady_ A friend is currently looking for a unit that does land/sea, any recommendations?, thanks

Not off the top of my head Kevin As i have not had any personal experience with a product that has that functionality.

K, thanks guessing it will have to be a portable unit, hopefully with vehicle mounting kit,..

I have a uniden can't remember the model number, works OK functionality wise (although I get pretty frustrated with the navigation through the menus), the only thing is it doesn't have the ability to export your track so you can view on your computer.

Check the cost of updating the maps Navman charge $199. to update my 1yr old unit and the latest is a 2006 map which is not much use

Check out www.gps.org.nz forums. Lots of well informed and helpful people there. If you go for Garmin you can get free open source maps.

Is right on! In fact, I paid much, much more for the latest NZ map for my Navman 510. I also use a GARMIN Vista and mention that as I sense a confusion in the thread between GPS units and Navman/Tom Tom type street navigation devices. Both have their uses. Esp Garmin for track-back to hotel, car park etc. Also for sailing. Have NZ and US maps on it.

Fair go put out a story a few months ago saying a couple of models were virtually hopeless. One led them into a field instead of a turn off and the other model, they were told it needed to be updated at a cost of $300! Only had it a few months.... Enough to put me off them and stick to maps.

I've got a Tomtom Go720. Lot's of applications available on the net if you look hard enough.

You will get absolutely no joy from the Navman site either! It's Aussie based and for over 12 months I have been trying to find out when they will do a trade in on older Navman (which they've been doing in Aus. for ages) and am still waiting! It would be just my luck to change to Tomtom or something similar and the offer will come up in NZ! My maps are 2005 and sure not up to date now!
