My daughter installed a dvd writer but when| geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 12:53 pm | #1 | | My daughter installed a dvd writer but when she tried to watch a dvd on it, the picture is great but no sound. I had the same problem on my laptop (but the dvd writer was pre-installed) and accidentally found that if I went into the program to start the dvd I could have sound yet if I inserted the dvd movie and let the computer play it I had not sound??? Hope this makes sense to anyone. Whats up with this? She has Nero and I have Roxio |

I do realise that some sound travels via the DATA cable and some travels by the separate path via that audio cable. Can you play a regular music CD? | | geek_drcspy | July 23, 2008, 1:02 pm | #3 | | And or codecs missing . | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 1:05 pm | #4 | | Yeah cds play no troubleOn my laptop, when the dvd is playing, the toolbar gives the options of sound which I clicked all affirmative etc, I even checked to make sure my 'volumme control' wasn't muted (as I usually have it), all to no avail. And with my daughters pc, her cds are algud on there too??? I advised her to follow my example but still nothing | | geek_mechnificent | July 23, 2008, 1:36 pm | #5 | | Ha, there's your problem telling your kids to follow your example! That never works! | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 1:50 pm | #6 | | I think I ought to defend myself...but darn it, there are things I would not want my kids to do that I thoroughly enjoy doing myself lol | | geek_mechnificent | July 23, 2008, 2:26 pm | #7 | | Good pointthere are lots of reasons to not tell our kids to follow our example. I kind of knew it wasn't a good idea at the time. | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 2:36 pm | #8 | | Lol yep | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 7:54 pm | #9 | | I still some assistance with this computer experts please? | | geek_babcorp | July 23, 2008, 7:57 pm | #10 | | You probably need a good codec pack and a better player. try googling k-lite pack and vlc player. :) | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 8:03 pm | #11 | | Thanks, I've just googled the k-lite pack and but wouldn't the program Roxio or Nero already have those capabilities? | | geek_pcmaster | July 23, 2008, 8:57 pm | #12 | | Roxio and nero are dvd burning (writing) programs and have nothing to do with the actual viewing or playing of dvds, thats a whole nuther thing. you use a media player and codecs for that. | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 9:14 pm | #13 | | Ahhhh!! The penny has dropped at last Sorry for being such a blonde you guys. Yep, I've just checked, theres Windows Media Player and dvd play and My dvd basic on here too. So, its the codecs I need. My poor daughter, shes not on the net where she is, so she wouldn't be able to download | | geek_flewy | July 23, 2008, 9:16 pm | #14 | | Download for her and burn to disc or save to flash drive. | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 9:19 pm | #15 | | Oh man, I'm definitely getting slow...........I didn't even think of that!! Thanks for reminding me and thanks a lot to you guys, you've helped heaps | | geek_flewy | July 23, 2008, 9:23 pm | #16 | | May also need the AC3 codec | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 9:36 pm | #17 | | And do I get that from the page I've googled and downloading from at the moment? | | geek_whaea_raranga | July 23, 2008, 9:39 pm | #18 | | Theres a ASV4U on the codec page??? will that do??? | | Leave your comment: | |
