Windows XP is the operating system .. | | geek_blenheim-trader | July 23, 2008, 9:03 pm | #4 | | Do you have a floppy disc in the disc drive assuming you have one? | | geek_jowa | July 23, 2008, 9:06 pm | #5 | | Thxs No - no floppy disc | | geek_flewy | July 23, 2008, 9:07 pm | #6 | | Try going into the BIOS going to (off the top my head cant remember) , but there is an ooption to select the boot device, make sure its set to the HDD that has the O/S partition, Or use F8 to get to the options screen after POST to select either Safe Mode or Boot Select. If that fail u could always slave the O/S drive and replace the NTRLD.dll file but after you have to reload all drivers. | | geek_blenheim-trader | July 23, 2008, 9:09 pm | #7 | | Could be a master boot record problem. if so try this ;--Boot from the windows XP CD, press the "R" key in the setup in order to start the restoration console. Select your windows XP installation from the list, and enter the administrator password.
Enter the command: "FIXMBR" (without the quotes) at the input prompt and confirm the next question with a "Y" (without the quotes). Use exit to restore the computer. | | geek_jowa | July 23, 2008, 9:09 pm | #8 | | Thxs Blenheim & Flewy My comp is in a different place to this one - shall go and try and see what happens. | | geek_pyro_sniper2002 | July 23, 2008, 9:12 pm | #9 | | The NTLDR is before you can press F8, http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm look at the bit that says windows xp users. If you dont have a cd, might want to take it to a tech. | | geek_flewy | July 23, 2008, 9:15 pm | #10 | | No its not? | | geek_deodar | July 23, 2008, 9:17 pm | #11 | | Its NTLDR is it not? This file is crucial to directing the
CPU on where to locate all boot files
but it can be replaced off the XP
CD.Using CMD to copy & place it where
the CPU & BIOS expect it to be.This
is like brain surgery on the System without anaesthetic, unless you knock
back a JD Black Label now. Then all
instructions to fix will @ least make
some sense. | | Leave your comment: | |
