At least get some form of encryption going and also consider mac filtering. | | geek_gibler | July 23, 2008, 4:54 pm | #3 | | Cover your home in tin foil ... | | geek_madazu | July 23, 2008, 4:59 pm | #4 | | I can just see you hunched over your computer with your tin foil hat on gibler rofl....... | | geek_titivator | July 23, 2008, 5:02 pm | #5 | | Anyone serous out there?? Gibler is a tosser so will move on from his comments.. | | geek_rhys.m | July 23, 2008, 5:04 pm | #6 | | You should enable WPA/WPA2 encryption on your router and set a relatively long and random password. Your router manual should explain how to do so. | | geek_hellfx | July 23, 2008, 5:13 pm | #7 | | All these methods are good to stop neighbours but not hackers like your asking, with a laptop and free software any hacker can get your password .. the record is 3 mins not sure if that was for WEP or WPA | | geek_rhys.m | July 23, 2008, 5:18 pm | #8 | | WEP cracking can be done fairly quickly However WPA with a long random password would take years to brute force and no one would goto that sort of trouble. | | geek_hellfx | July 23, 2008, 5:26 pm | #9 | | For learning purrposes only http://tinyurl.com/zv7uw | | geek_gibler | July 23, 2008, 6:01 pm | #10 | | Gee someone doesn't like a joke .. surely the manual these days will point out to use WPA2 | | geek_madazu | July 23, 2008, 6:48 pm | #11 | | What an excellent way to get help.....first of all RTFM the steps to secure your wireless router are actually spelt out in the manual that came with the router, calling regular posters here tossers will not endear you!
There are 4 steps to securing the router from casual intrusion 1 enabling MAC address filtering on the router 2 Enabling WPA/WPA2 encryption with a secure random hexadecimal code 3 Disabling broadcast ID on the router once all of the clients you wish to have on it. Without a BSSID it makes the router that much more difficult to find 4 actually check your network neighborhood to see if there are any unauthorised clients on the network a freeware program designed to check for intrusions is Air Snare, but most of all actually do the research yourself instead of being rude! | | geek_seriouslycgi | July 23, 2008, 7:45 pm | #12 | | Wouldnt covering your house in tinfoil keep more of the signal in? and someof the signal out?your onto something gibler. im going to pak and save and get all the tinfoil i can, who is going to help me cover giblers house? | | Leave your comment: | |
